Boss OD-20 Drive Zone

Always thought this was an interesting pedal. Kind of a one-stop shop. I could have my SD-1 and DS-1 in the same box; and then some. Anyone have any experience with this pedal?

i dont remember loving them when they came out. lots of stuff in there, but seemed a bit flat. granted, i only spent maybe an hour with one so maybe i didnt get things dialed in as well as i could have

I haven't ever tried one. I know that have the old COSM technology that came out in the 90s. Maybe more plastic and artificial sounding than my real Boss pedals.

COSM has come a long way since the 90s. I've never tried the OD-20, but one of my big gripes with that sort of pedal is you have too many options. With an SD-1 and DS-1 you can only get so good a tone from your pedals to where you aren't spending all day trying to find a better one

True, COSM has come a long way. You are right about there being too may options. I had that issue with a Boss ME-80 that I once owned. Bottom line is that I actually don't have enough room on my pedalboard for an OD-20. With that, I don't even know why I was considering at all.

The way I play, the SD-1 fits me very well. The DS-1 gives more gain, but I don't really play like that when I play with other players. I try to stay pretty clean; so why even entertain a pedal like that?

Yeah, I was just noticing I do the same thing too. If I'm playing by myself or along with a track, tons of gain. When I practice with others, my signal tends to be a lot cleaner, even if I don't notice it in the moment

I received my OD-20 Saturday and plugged it up this morning. It is very impressive. I've used effect platforms like this many times. I think where players mess up is expecting the model to emulate perfectly. I look at it as a lot of versatility and a great platform for creativity. There is a Klon clone. It sounds great. Doesn't it sound like a Klon? Not exactly, but it sounds good to me and very usable.

Exactly the right attitude.

Not "Is it EXACTLY" an SD1, but "Can I sue a good Asymmetric OD sound out of this?"

So, going through various settings, I found the Klon clone very nice. The Guv'nor clone very nice also. The Tube Screamer setting is fire. Sounds nothing like a Tube Screamer but sounds great as its own OD/dist. effect.

I've also used the DD-20 (same series) and it is an excellent delay pedal.

Man - I came so close to getting one of those...They still rock today. Gary Schutt usually has two on his board. People love them for a reason. The updated 200 is all that and better layout.

Anyway, I went with a TC Nova Delay. Not regrets there either.
