Boss Waza Amp?

Re: Boss Waza Amp?

I'd spend the money on something boutique at that price before I bought that thing..
That's just robbery..

Re: Boss Waza Amp?

Apart from being way overpriced, it's a nice sounding amp. The first demo or two they put out made it sound like utter ****, but I've come across a few very impressive one's since.

Re: Boss Waza Amp?

I was quite impressed with the blues cubes until I saw the asking price.
I understand solid state and modelling amps have come on leaps and bounds but why spend money on a product that is 'almost' indistinguishable' from tubes when you can actually buy a tube amp for the same price which coincidentally sounds exactly like a tube amp.
They'll be on ebay in 5 years time struggling to get 10% of that price

That's the thing that kills me with all the modeling stuff. Every year my original Deluxe Memory Man is worth a little more. Every year my Timeline (as cool as it is) is worth a little less.

Some probably don't want to deal with buying/sourcing tubes, I know i would love to have something that sounds as good as tube amp with zero maintenance but its not possible without me spending atleast more than $500 on the modeling unit + FRFR system that requires minimum tweaking.

Boss had also released some ugly looking expensive amps few years back, dont remember the model names but I'm not referring to the blues cube. Those were somewhere in $1.5k range i think. I've never seen it in stores near me, not even the blues cube. The waza amps are as expensive as some mesa amps new, at that price they are also competing with kemper & fractal stuff, so yeah i would look elsewhere before looking into these.

Re: Boss Waza Amp?

Yes some people don't want to deal with the hassle of tubes, but the people who are spending 2k+ are the people who want high end tone and willing to put up with the grief tube amps come with.
If a good lightweight blues cube style amp 1x12 around 30 watts was on the market for £250/$350 dollars I think they'd appeal to 25-50% of the market as a go to amp while the tube amp get pulled out for recording/special occassions.

The market for gigging/rehearsal level modelling/solid state for 2k or more is tiny

I think it is if you package that all in an actual amp. But Fractals are used by huge artists these days, and they have trouble keeping them in stock.

Re: Boss Waza Amp?

Holy moly!!! Had no idea the price!! heck, for that money, Im all over a Friedman BE.

But, I am still curious if it gets near the brown tone? They really kinda push that in the promotion.

By the time it arrives in my country the price would be pumped up 'til around $4000 value of your money. I would not burn so much on any amp, even if I could.

Re: Boss Waza Amp?

I think it sounds great in some of the demos, and I would be interested, but not at that price. It is solid state modeling, not digital, which I think is great, but again, at that price I'll have to pass.

FWIW, the Yamaha THR100 and THR100D are digital modelers that sound great for way less than a grand (sorry, I know, unrelated...), if I was looking for an amp they would be high on my list. I am one of those people that is glad to not deal with tubes these days.

The answer in my mind is 1) reliability 2) less maintenance 3) almost always less weight.
For "almost indistinguishable" sound differences, why would a similar price be an issue? JMO

Re: Boss Waza Amp?

There are too many Bandits out there to justify that much on an "almost what you wanted" amp

Re: Boss Waza Amp?

Tech21 does the solid-state modeling thing really well, at a much less expensive price. I think Vox also got into that game, too. Historically, Roland/Boss's amps have always been crazy expensive. Didn't they learn from the Roland GA-212?

Re: Boss Waza Amp?

Yes, some of the Roland/Boss amps are very pricey, but some of the CUBEs (40 GX and 80GX to name two) aren't...especially with the rebates of late.
The Waza seems really overboard!

Re: Boss Waza Amp?

After using an SS amp for years, I went back to using tube amps: Fender, Marshall and finally...supremely Mesa amps. It would be difficult to go back, because I am SO happy with my tones. I hear a difference in tubes, and the "hassles" are worth it to me.

If I were to go away from tubes, I would take a serious look at the Fractal. And a tube power amp. ☺

Re: Boss Waza Amp?

The Fractal stuff IS good, though I never thought a tube power amp added much. It is that good.
