That's the thing that kills me with all the modeling stuff. Every year my original Deluxe Memory Man is worth a little more. Every year my Timeline (as cool as it is) is worth a little less. They'll be on ebay in 5 years time struggling to get 10% of that price
Some probably don't want to deal with buying/sourcing tubes, I know i would love to have something that sounds as good as tube amp with zero maintenance but its not possible without me spending atleast more than $500 on the modeling unit + FRFR system that requires minimum tweaking.I understand solid state and modelling amps have come on leaps and bounds but why spend money on a product that is 'almost' indistinguishable' from tubes when you can actually buy a tube amp for the same price which coincidently sounds exactly like a tube amp.
Yes some people don't want to deal with the hassle of tubes, but the people who are spending 2k+ are the people who want high end tone and willing to put up with the grief tube amps come with.
If a good lightweight blues cube style amp 1x12 around 30 watts was on the market for £250/$350 dollars I think they'd appeal to 25-50% of the market as a go to amp while the tube amp get pulled out for recording/special occassions.
The market for gigging/rehearsal level modelling/solid state for 2k or more is tiny
The answer in my mind is 1) reliability 2) less maintenance 3) almost always less weight.I was quite impressed with the blues cubes until I saw the asking price.
