Bottom to top fade finish?

I'm trying to think of a finish for my next guitar project. I just completed a beautiful green / black burst strat. I've seen a few left to right fade guitars, like the one below, but I've not seen any bottom to top fades (like a horizon at sunset). I've google imaged searched but nothing so far. I'm curious what one would look like. Thanks (c:

Re: Bottom to top fade finish?

I just searched on "fade guitar finish"
And images

There are some interesting concepts there
One was a PRS with the fade diagonal across the body

I'm not a huge fan of those finishes though

Re: Bottom to top fade finish?

These types of fades are very trendy right now. They will not age well.
IMO of course.

If the colors are right, they are gorgeous. Just not for me.

Re: Bottom to top fade finish?

Yeah, PRS did a lot of horizontal fades...Al Di Meola played one. The guitar above looks elegant. Al's doesn't.

I think I might have not been clear what I was looking for by posting that image.

I'm looking to see if anyone has finished a guitar with that kind of fade but from bottom to top if you were holding the guitar. 90 degrees from THAT fade in the picture. I've image searched a lot of fades and I've not run across any horizontal (if you were holding the guitar) fades.

This one?

Oh dear! It begins as an ugly clownburst before suddenly transitioning into blue for no good reason; the purple and green are so thin I am not convinced they are supposed to be there. What a trainwreck!

And they didn't get the colors in the right order - everyone with a little kid knows it's "red orange yellow, green followed by blue, then indigo and violet!" [And that's a rainbow song for you]

I think a top-to-bottom fade could look great with the right colors. Modern for sure (as opposed to classic), but lovely. And this is coming from a punk/alt rocker who likes black guitars!

Re: Bottom to top fade finish?

Yeah, that's the one. I think they were going for visually striking vs elegance, and look, we are talking about it years later, so it must've made some kind of impact.

Re: Bottom to top fade finish?

It sort of looks like the paint sampler guitar to show you the colors you can order for your guitar.

Re: Bottom to top fade finish?

I've seen a cool looking fade that was basically the opposite of the norm with edges the lightest color darkening toward the center of the body.
