Bought two guitars... late night browsing...

Re: Bought two guitars... late night browsing...

Those look great! Other than the pickguard, any other plans for them?

Ha, you are a bad influence. Right now I think just the pickguard of the SG and replacing the knobs... it has gold hardware and they put on chrome topped vintage knobs - not sure why. So I want to change to vintage/gold topped. The pickups seem ok, but I haven't looked int he control cavities yet to see how the wiring looks.

Re: Bought two guitars... late night browsing...

Well, I am one of those people that thinks everybody should live with their stock pickups for awhile, so if they want a change, they will have a better idea of what they want, not just 'better'. Take your time and enjoy them!

Re: Bought two guitars... late night browsing...

24-fret 3-PU aged white SG. Nice. Gibson doesn’t even do that (that I recall). The LP reminds me of a cross between an Aria and a Florentine cut ES-295. First class all the way around.

Thanks - yeah I noticed that 24-fret... it is actually new in their lineup. The original model that Benton came up with was the 22-fret model with the small pickguard plastic piece between the board and the first pickup.

Interesting on the pickup wiring... It appears to be:

Position 1 - bridge and Middle
Position 2 (middle) - all 3
Position 3 - middle and neck

And each pickup has its own volume control so you can blend pickups, or you can leave in the middle position and use the volume controls to select the pickup. I was toying with the idea of a 5 or 6-way rotary switch for pickup selection, but might not be necessary.

Yeah, apparently Gibson won't build a 24 fret one. They say there is clearly not enough room.

That’s a very useful wiring. My Firebird was like that when I got it. You can make it like a normal HH, or like a Gibson 3-PU, or other combinations with that set up.

Re: Bought two guitars... late night browsing...

Posted a video of the unboxing. Gives you some idea of what you get. Will be doing a review of each soon!

Re: Bought two guitars... late night browsing...

Good luck getting those through Customs if you have to.

Re: Bought two guitars... late night browsing...

I got a Cheap Chinese case that was too shallow at the headstock too

I got my money back that was wasnt gonna work

when you close the case you put pressure on the top of the neck and its in a constant bind
if the case falls your headstock pops off

dont use that case

I think you are right. I might need to email them.

Good quality on that video. What camera are you using?

Re: Bought two guitars... late night browsing...

so I was wondering what is the neck shape on the LP copy
is it like the Epi Slim 60s
or the Gibson Slim D
or something entirely different

Can't just pop in and check one out

Hi - I'm not entirely sure as I don't have a ton of experience with Les Pauls. I can say that the SG and the LP copy have different necks. The SG is slimmer. The LP is thicker - and the entire guitar is very THICK. It is much heavier than, say my ESP EC256. The SG customer is AWESOME. Very easy to play and just super freaking cool.

Re: Bought two guitars... late night browsing...

the thin ESP neck, I would imagine, would be like the Epi Slim 60s C
which, to me, is just like the Wizard II neck on my RG's but without that flat spot on back

that sounds like what the SG neck is
which is what traditionally came on the SG's

and you say the LP neck is much thicker

yea that may be the 50's style, but I'm not sure

and you say its heavy? oh man I bet its a tone monster
