Brad Paisley vs. Keith Urban

Re: Brad Paisley vs. Keith Urban

I prefer Brad Paisley. He's got just right amount of twang when he sings. When I saw him on one of the late night shows he flat out ruled that tele. Urban is ok...he's a great player from what I understand. I'm not as familiar with his stuff

Re: Brad Paisley vs. Keith Urban

I (ok actually my dad) tuned into a country station for the first time in years.

NuCountry sounds a whole lot like old country (which started to sound a whole lot like pop years ago).

Except with generic, cliched rock bits thrown in now.

I'll be disinterested til people like Glen Miller and Marty Robbins are accepted again.

Re: Brad Paisley vs. Keith Urban

Urban is a poser doing music in the style of the week. Does he even write his own tunes? Paisley can play circles around him, has a style unique to himself and is instantly recognizable. Urban has a deal because they girls lose their **** over him. It sells records I guess but Australian country singer? Please.....

A poser doing music is the style of the weak(yes it's spelled weak, not week)? You really have no idea what your talking about. He writes or co-writes 95% of his songs. Name one other person that has Keith's style in country music today because there isn't one.

Keith owns Brad IMO. I don't dislike Paisley at all, he is a monster player I like quite a bit of his stuff on occasion, but it gets old really fast. Keith has done plenty of straight country stuff, but most people who are not Urban fans only really know of his latest albums and not his first Australian released cd and The Ranch. I guess I'm biased though since Keith is my favorite artist of all time. I love the country/rock mix and his songs and playing style really appeal to me. 90% of the time I've got a Keith cd in my player.

Paisley will get you alot closer to those guys than most...he's quite a bit old school...which i like! don't get me wrong...Urban is a player and has sweet tone...i'm just kinda old fashioned when it comes to country music...Urban is better than most of the SUPER CHEEZY guys out there!

I think The Architect spelled it "WEEK" on purpose; as in "Flavor of the WEEK".

I also dig the rock-country thing Keith brings....it's more ME (I love Teles & rock with a twang), but I'd also love to play like Brad. He spanks a Tele like it should be played.

To each his own....I like them both & have been enjoying both CDs :bigok:

It's style of the "week" on purpose. i.e Flavor of the week? Maybe you have heard the phrase once or twice before? I know exactly what I am talking about. Name someone who isn't doing that style of country music right now. Pop/Rock flavored country is all anyone is doing. Paisley is far more distinctive songwriter than Keith Urban or anyone else in the charts right now. He is the only country artist I can pick out blind.
Urban, Rascall Flat, they all sound the same. Urban is the Michael Bolton of country.

Ok, I got ya on the week thing, my bad. But comparing Keith and Rascall Flats makes me laugh. They are nothing alike, nobody in country is. Who writes most of their own stuff, plays lead guitar like him and most of the other insturments on the record? Their isn't any. There are really two kinds of music in country today. First, you have the one man shows, where one guy stands up there, plays rhythm guitar(or sometimes dosen't even play) and sings while the backing band handles everything else. Then you have the "groups" or "bands" where you have one or two players in the group and a singer, but they still need all that help from a backing band. Do they play multiple insturments throughout their show? Nope. Keith plays lead electric and acoustic, piano, banjo(he plays a ganjo most of the time though), Groups like Rascall Flats don't write much of their own stuff, they can't even put on a concert with needing backing musicians behind them, and they couldn't make a record without bringing in studio musicians. If you can only pick out Paisley blind, you must not have very good hearing. Even though I don't like most other country stuff I have a good enough ear to pick out different artists. You have your opinion and I've got mine. I probably don't like most of the stuff you like so I'll take your opinion for what it's worth which is nothing.

Re: Brad Paisley vs. Keith Urban

FWIW Actually, I'm probably more of a Jerry Reed guy that BP or KU. I was listening to JR's greatest hit's and it has some very cool country picking on it. But, I'm sure you guys already know that.

Actually I'm gonna call you out on this one man. Gotta know your groups better before you start throwing down on them. Rascal Flatts writes most of their music, harmony, and on demos they play all of the instruments (with the exception of drums I believe). The guitarist is also their lead guitarist live (as well as singer/harmony vocalist) and the bassist also plays keys and I believe a little guitar. While I don't particularly enjoy their music, they are talented musicians with a knack for writing catchy pop songs, and you can't knock them for that. After all, that's what the Beatles did (and no, I'm not saying that RF is in any way the same kind of league as the Beatles, but in the end the goals are similar). Get your facts straight before you start trying to discredit someone.

Re: Brad Paisley vs. Keith Urban

While I haven't seen Brad live, I've seen Keith 3 times - awesome show, and man can he rip.

I give alot of credit to a band's live shows if they're good, holding everyone up to the greatest live shows in the history of music - the 1978 and 1980 Bruce Springsteen tours. While no one has approaced that pinnacle, Keith's shows were real good.

Nice duet with John Mayer and Brad Paisley. Brad was very polite and John kinda ran all over him in a few places. Good playing overall with lots of feel. I can see why people keep raving about their chops. Both have buttloads of talent. Brad Paisley has a few brilliant parts there with incredible taste. Very good stuff. Enjoyable vid for sure.

BP is a seriously bad man. I'll have to look up some KU for a comparison too. He seems more rock to me.

My biggest problem with KU or BP is the fact that both seem to be a tad cliche' with their lyrics. That bugs the crap outta me. Their sense of humor is also cliche.

Re: Brad Paisley vs. Keith Urban

I love both of their music, but have always thought of Brad as more attatched to the roots of his music.

that was a beautiful interchange

Re: Brad Paisley vs. Keith Urban

I appreciate the opinion, but I'd put "Rollercoaster" up against "Make A Mistake" any day....and not be too sure of who's kicking who in the nads.

You've got the wrong song for that comparison.....how about putting Rollercoaster up againt Munster Rag....get back with us on how that sounds.

I made that comparison because I knew he loved that (Make A Mistake) song.

They both can play.......PERIOD.

There is no "better", just different. :beerchug:
