Re: Brass Ibanez Artist
Man, that is really weird. I'm going to tell a little story that is true, but is unlikely to be believed.
Back in the early 1980s I lived in Sydney but took to the road for a while with a backpack, bumming up and down the east coast of Australia. After a while i ended up in Melbourne, hanging out with some mates of mine who had a touring cover band and were based around Melbourne at that time.
One night i was just wandering around in the city when i passed a music shop. I stopped to look in the window because something caught my eye. It was one of the new-ish (at that time) Ibanez Artists, except the one displayed in the window was different, and that's why it had caught my eye. This thing was made of brass !!! I will never forget it, because my first thought was ... "How the heck is the raised platform in the window display able to hold the weight ?! " I think there was a card on or next to the guitar with some writing, but i can't remember what it said (eh, it was thirty years ago).
So either the guitar in the link is well-travelled, or it's not the only one in the world. Perhaps it was being used as a promotional device at Ibanez dealers around the world at the time, I don't know. But I do remember seeing it in a Melbourne store all those years ago.
It could be possible that an older Melbourne forum member may be able to verify this, maybe Wahwah, Will S-T or Pontiac Jack, although PJ hasn't been around in recent times. But i know i saw it .... you just don't forget seeing a production model guitar that's been made out of brass ... I mean back then, it was new and shiny, no patina from ageing. In the lights of the city, that thing looked like a king or queen sitting there in the window, you couldn't walk past without noticing it.
