Breadboarded a Fuzz Face

Re: Breadboarded a Fuzz Face

in my mind Fuzz Faces and humbuckers do not sound good together. True? False?

false. :)
Like anyone who uses fuzz faces know, they are not easy things to get used to, and the way they interact with buckers is different to single coils. You wont sound like hendrix of course, but you can definitely get some sweet tones from a humbucker equipped guitar. That's pretty well all i use. Signal chain = 335 +fuzz face (always on)+amp

Do you like Hendrix (silicon(bc108)) or Eric Johnson (silicon(bc138)) or Pete Townshend (Germanium(i think NKT275)) etc.'s tone better?
I like silicon - it does not do the extreme changes in tone using your guitar controls as germs can, but they can still do it well, they don't have the same feel either, but you get more note definition and separation as well as more reliability in terms of temperature fluctuations.
Get both. Experiment, and see whats best for you. Fuzz faces give up their secrets if you spend time with them and listen for the subtleties hidden within. Work with your guitar controls and make sure when you are experimenting there is literally nothing else in the signal chain, then you will find the cool sounds.

I remember disliking fuzz effects when I was a lot younger...and then learned to adjust knobs and now I long for a good fuzz. The other day I found this very nice sweet creamy tone and I didn't take a picture or a mental note of any settings and I regret it so much because one slight twist of any knob (guitar or effect) and I was losing it.
