Brian Moore guitars??

BloodRose

Professional Scapegoat
Musicians pal has Brian moore i21 s for $399 and i 91 for $349.

Are these good or dung?? I know Brian moore used to be all that...
Please tell me before they sell out.. ; )

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

They're obviously Korean made, not the US version. They run them through the plant here before distribution to be setup and as final QC, though. I have an i8 and it's a great guitar for the money. Sperzels, JB/bridge and Alnico II Pro/neck, nice looking flame top ( a very thin veneer, though), I dig mine. I think I paid $300 used for the guitar with a h/s case.

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

my brian moore i88.13 rocks hard ... and for the money, it is unbelievable .. i upgraded to sperzels and an AIIP & JB w/ PRS 5-way switching .. flawless tracking on the synth and very nice piezo tone for faux-acoustic

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

i dont think you could do wrong with any Brian Moore, but then, I am biased...

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

I know his US guitars are supposed to be awesome.. I Just wonder about the imports.. They have a super strat type and a lp type.. Im so tempted at $399 with gig bag.. I just could use the money for other stuff.. But sometimes a good deal comes along..

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

i have an i1...i think the main difference between it and the ones you are looking at is probably being that it is a set neck...and i have to say it is just as nice as ANY guitar made by ANY manufacturer in ANY country that i have personaly played...i have been tempted to get the lp type in a bolt on used to play around and experiment with...those are good prices for a brand new guitar...GO FOR IT!!!

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

Yo Mike, thats sweet!! Is yours a USA one? Are you saying the overseas ones are as good as anything out there? If so, I'll then have to decide which one I want, The strat shape of the Set neck.. Hmmmm That should about break me..

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

Have you played one, BR? My only words of caution would be about the neck. For my tastes, it's awfully thin. I have learned to live with it, but it wouldn't be my preference.

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

I played a couple of US made ones a few years back.

The necks were a bit thin and the composite bodies sounded very dead to me. Really well made and thought out guitars, though.

I'd like to try an all-wood one with a thicker neck.

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

Hamerplyr,
No, I havent. I dont get to sample much gear around here if it isnt made by Fender , Gibson, Ibanez, Peavey or Epiphone. Ive not played Brian Moore, Schecter or any of the boutiques like Anderson, Shur..(sp?)
Is the neck thinner than Wizard??

Mine is mahog/maple/rosewood. The necks are small, which is great for me. Definately try some of the newer US ones- any guitar with stock Duncans will be worth trying.

Wizard? Sorry, I don't know what you're referencing.

If I had to compare it to what you have access to, I would compare it to an Ibanez neck. It seems to be more geared toward the shredder, which I'm definitely not. I've learned to live with it, as I said. It sounds great, I just wish that it had a big, chunky neck. That's only a personal preference, obviously.

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

yeah, I think it was a refrence to an Ibanez neck...not as thin or wide, really. I like it, I have small hands, and rarely bend strings, or 'dig in', so it is perfect for me.

Thanks, Mincer.

I have average-size hands with long fingers and I do bend a lot, now that I think about it. I also have a slow, wide vibrato. I guess that's why a thicker neck appeals more to me. Still, I have learned to live with the thin neck.

I guess that I'm trying to say that you can learn to love it if the price is right, even if it ain't perfect.

nope mine's an i1..."i" for international...

the neck really hasn't bothered me any...my hands are actually not that large, but i had a friend who bought the i2 (lp shape) and he didn't care for the neck...he usuall plays on a wolfgang...?

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

i have an ibanez 540s (with a neck shape that is essentially the same as what came to be known as the wizard neck) and a brian moore i88.13 ... i find their necks to be nearly identical as far as my hands and fingers are concerned ... i have medium to large hands (not van halen sized, but not girly sized) and medium to long fingers that are kinda chunky ... i find them both very comfortable to play and never feel that the neck is a limitation to my playing

good luck

cheers

I agree... Even if it is a Korean import, Samick is most likely making them. I believe with a proper setup you'll have an axe to be proud of....

Re: Brian Moore guitars??

My i21 (import) never fails to get favorable responses from people who get to play it. $399 new is a great price. I got mine used for $350. Even though the stock "iM" tuners weren't too bad, I replaced them with special ordered polished chrome Sperzel locking tuners (see below). Replacing the iM pickups (not too bad sounding, but nothing special to my ears) with. . . well. . . any set you choose will do wonders for the tone. You can then add a master coil split push/pull volume control and you should be just about where the more expensive i2 is. . . minus the more intense top. matching headstock, gold hardware and cream pickup bezels.

Neckwise, it's a bit wider than the Superstrat models, more in keeping with its LP shape/scale.

Brett

NOTE: For those of you who intend to upgrade the iM tuners with locking Sperzels, here's a pretty important point to remember, you need to order the 3x3 set which has the posts that are the same height. The 6 in line set has 3 sets of 2 with posts of graduated length (for Strat like guitars) to give you the string pull down comprable to a tilt back headstock. The problem is the 2 with the shortest posts are too short for the Brian Moore headstock (which has a thicker head stock due to their 2 tone "wood on wood" or "black on wood" design). I happened to have an incomplete set of Sperzels hanging around and canabalized the 2 with the longest posts for the Brian Moore (that set was black, so now, the bottom 2 have the brushed black housings with everything else polished chrome. . . turns out my "accident" looks pretty nice, loke I MEANT to do that. . .)

It's pretty easy to then take one of the tuners for the G, B, or E strings, dismantle the knob/worm drive, put it in the opposite side of the post housing, and reassemble it (giving you a 4x2 set).

Yeah, I had the feeling that the ones I played were an all-wood body away from being killer guitars. really liked the arched top.
