Bridge/Neck PU choice - Epi LP Std.

First time poster! (Well, first time in a looong time)

Anyway, here's my dilemna......I have an Epiphone LP Standard Plus and I'm looking to replace the pickups. I'm sure you all know a fair amount about the guitars construction, so no need to bother with that. However, I'm using a Peavey JSX and I'm looking for a pickup that has a high output, since my amp is ever so slightly lacking in the gain department. Influences are Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Testament to name a few.

The JB is a fine pickup, but I'm looking for something different this time. Should it be a Custom or Distortion in the bridge? And what is a good fit for either one in the neck?

Cheers!

The Peavey JSX lacks gain?!?!? It's not Krankenstein, but how much gain do you need???? Sounds like an amp problem...not pup issues. I defer to JSX owners though. I haven't heard an amp in the past 5 years that didn't have more gain than I knew what to do with. Maybe I'm getting old. How are you setting the knobs on that thing?

Turn it up a little? I knew someone who claimed their M/B Recto didnt have enough gain.. I turned up their volume, they shat their pants.

Shat - I applaud proper your language usage and skill as a knob twiddler.

Haha, sarcasm?

By the way, I've been meaning to say.. Your guitar collection kicks arse.

I'm in that first time poster category also. I would be as surprised as Aceman about the JSX lacking in the gain department - even the slightest bit. Still, if you keep getting that vibe, take it in for a checkup.

On the Custom vs. Distortion aspect, I've got them both in Epi's. The DC gives me a lot of versatiliy when it comes to playing different styles from Classic Rock up through Metal. The DD is reserved exclusively for Metal; however it excels at that job.

Re: Bridge/Neck PU choice - Epi LP Std.

I do a lot of relatively low volume playing, which is why the amp doesn't seem to be oozing with gain, I know that. I just want to be able to give the amp that extra little kick in the a$$ for the crunch channel, which is fairly low output (but the best sounding drive channel).

My previous amp was a 5150 II, so I was spoiled by that in terms of potential gain output.

I think I'm going to go DD, which pickup would be a good match at the neck? The same thing? Anything else?

Re: Bridge/Neck PU choice - Epi LP Std.

I have a Jazz in the neck at the moment. Unfortunately, I have not been to happy with the Jazz lately in the GT. I actually have the Jazz in both my Epi LPs but my GT is darker than my Classic and I believe that's why I am wavering on the Jazz being right or not. Either that or I cannot get the Jazz adjusted quite right (... but this is another thread.) I was hoping someone else would jump in with what they are pairing with ceramic bridges in LPs. Any takers?

Edit: :smack: I'll plead noob! Aceman already has a thread going on this topic so... I'll refer to that one. Sorry.
