Re: Bridge p/u in Neck position
What kind of music are you wanting the LP for? The neck PU on a LP can get boomy, so a '59N is a risk (although I like them). For definition and to prevent muddiness, you need a bright, clear neck. On LP's I've used JazzN, DMz Bluesbucker, and a Phat CatN (with an A5/A3). All work well.
On the bridge are you wanting a PAF type, or something raw, raunchy, & high output, like a C5? Ther's also medium output, like a DMz Fred.
A good pair is a 498T (with an A4) and a 490R (with an A5). A lot of guys pull these & sell them, and never try different magnets, so they never know their potential.
Keep an eye out for used PU's, and see what you can get a good price on.
the El Degas LP copy my dad bought me for my 15th birthday is looking really nervous as it hangs on the wall here. Kept it for sentimental reasons, but p/u's aren't great, and already decided that next project will be finding the pups/options that will replace the old Jap parts! Suggestions.
