Bridge pickup replacement for Jackson Dinky

Re: Bridge pickup replacement for Jackson Dinky

I never said either, nor do I necessarily believe either to be true as you stated them, not do I find them mutually exclusive.

Man the lifeboats, Clint. Your ship is sinking.

Re: Bridge pickup replacement for Jackson Dinky

Hey, been some time, was on a holiday and couldn't do much. So I just wired my old Super Distortion, but I didn't like it at all on my home amp. It had a bit more clarity than the PAF Pro, but for some reason it was still muddy. No clue why that's happening to be honest, it was really bright in my LP, and it should be brighter in an alder body, shouldn't it? Gonna test the guitar on my Peavey whenever I go to my rehearsal room, but honestly I don't have great expectations.

Re: Bridge pickup replacement for Jackson Dinky

My Dinky liked a Distortion for thrash better than a JB. It was basswood. Helpful? Prolly not.

Re: Bridge pickup replacement for Jackson Dinky

I recommend and prefer Dimarzio humbuckers for Strats and SuperStrat style guitars.

Tone Zone
Evolution
Evo2
Norton
D-Activator
Super Distortion

Dactivator in an already relatively thin/bright guitar?

IMO, the D-Activator isn't any more bright than an EMG 81, and they came/come OEM in some Jacksons.
I have a D-Activator in the bridge of my HWY1 Strat, and it kills. I actually found the JB to be brighter in the same guitar than the D-Activator.
The D-Activator being referred to as a bright pickup is a bit of a misconception. With a 6/6/6 eq rating it is quite balanced, and although it has a cutting top end, it also has a big, tight lowend. This helps it excel at tunings below standard as well.
It's also an inherently loud pickup, much like the SD Blackouts, which I also own. So that aspect can, and does attribute to the opinion that the pickup is bright. When in reality it's just more "in yer face" than traditional high output humbuckers, again like the Blackouts are.
The OP also wants clarity under high gain, which the D-Activator does in spades.

Fair enough m8. Personally i dont think emgs belong in a strat type guitar (or any guitar lol). not to totally derail the thread or anything but how do u like the jvm and the black winters? Been looking into both of those

Re: Bridge pickup replacement for Jackson Dinky

EMG 81 in a 25.5" superstrat gets it done and has gotten it done for how many decades (including the current one) by how many players? Through Mesa Mark II, III, IV and V? Forget about it. Proven track record. The real deal. Denying that is silly.

...that said, sticking one in a Gibson is just plain wrong. Sorry Zakk Wylde.

Re: Bridge pickup replacement for Jackson Dinky

A little bit offtopic. Just realized that the screws don't align with the strings (a.k.a. my Super D isn't F-spaced). Should I be worried about that and buy an F-spaced pickup when I do buy one (Trembucker as SD calls them), or should I just not worry about that?
