Bridge pickup too shrill

Hi guys,
What's the best way to take a little of the high end off? I have an '70 ibanez archtop that is nice an warm on the neck pup, but the bridge one is really harsh.
They seem pretty balanced volume wise, any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Bridge pickup too shrill

what pickup are you using? Also, if you have a 500k volume pot in there, try switching to a 250k, it should remove that high end shrill.

Re: Bridge pickup too shrill

Cheapest and easist thing is just to turn down the tone control a little...but that's obvious.

Best thing would probably be to replace it with a nice alnico 2 pickup...maybe a Seth Lover or Custom Custom.

You could take your ax apart and switch to 250K pots, but that's more hassle than just changing to a better sounding bridge pickup.

I did not like the Ibanez pickups I've had...

Re: Bridge pickup too shrill

Custom Custom is a bit strong for an archtop in my view, but the Seth Lover definitely sounds like a winner.

Re: Bridge pickup too shrill

hi guys,
I'll probably look into changing the pot, I don't like the new Ibanez but some of the '70 era pups aren't too bad. (they're not duncan's but decent)
Thanks for the replies!

Yes, if they are super 70 or super 58 they should be good .

Yeah, those super 70s aren't too bad. I replaced my bridge pickup with a JB (my first SD purchase ever back in 2000 and it sounded pretty sweet.) It's a vintage sunburst Les Paul Custom copy with a bolt on neck. I've heard before that it's a "Lawsuit Guitar" because Gibson sued ibanez for making an exact replica? Is that true. Here's a pic of it, probably not the best one.
