bridge PU for Ibanez RG550

I have a les paul with a JB/59 combo that I really like. I have a 89 Rg550 in my closet in pieces that I want to put back together and I would like a bridge P that would warm the sound up as the stock PU is very thin. I was thinking a custom or a PG any ideas???

Re: bridge PU for Ibanez RG550

I have an RG 570 in pieces :laugh2:

i put a custom in it... i wouldnt say it warmed it up, it made the guitar more cutting and fuller sounding though... warms not a word i'd use to describe it :/ i imagine with a maple fretboard the highs will be even more.

If you end up not putting it together again i might be intrested in buying that neck off you..

Re: bridge PU for Ibanez RG550

My neck is a rosewood. So the custom didn't warm it up hmmmm cause the thing sounds very thin compared to my les and even thinner compared to my dot. the Rg has been apart for about 5 years so i am going by memory but i would like to get it back in action but since I have gone seymour duncan there is no turning back :). I think I am going to buy reg spaced pickups so i can try them in my les paul.

Re: bridge PU for Ibanez RG550

well the thinness (imo) partly comes from the backrouted floyd.

if you dont use it upwards you could have someone put in a block of wood where its backrouted, and it'll beef up the sound of the guitar

Re: bridge PU for Ibanez RG550

I have a JB/JBjr/59n in my RG 550. It doesn't have the girth that my LPs have but the tone is definately solid.

Re: bridge PU for Ibanez RG550

I wouldn't go with PG's like you said in your description...the PGb can be thin in my les paul so it would be no good in your ibanez.

Re: bridge PU for Ibanez RG550

i'd say the Custom/ JB would do the trick. if you want a thick bottom end, the PATB is the way to go.

i have the Screamin' Demon in my 1550, it's not a 'warm' humbucker per se but it makes my ibanez more full sounding. :)

Re: bridge PU for Ibanez RG550

thanks for the input guys I can't wait to get it back together. BTW I was going to block the trem and mabey add a dtuna. I love it on my buds wolfgang

Re: bridge PU for Ibanez RG550

The JB is a great pup. The Custom Custom might be a good one and I'm going to try it in my RG. Hey Robert, have you tried the CC in your RG?

I always feel a little guilty suggesting Dimarzio pups here, but the Breed and Paf Pro pups are very good. They have lotsa mids.

FYI, have a listen to DLR's Eat em' and smile CD. That's Vai the Paf Pro/RG combo.

Re: bridge PU for Ibanez RG550

Here's my RG570 (Note: the redish tinge on the back half is a reflection).

It's gonna be a RG570 BSB shortly

i have the CC in my other Ibanez: SZ320, some say the mids is a little excessive but maybe the mahagony body contributed to the midrange enhancement...

i have the rosewood fretboard too on my RG 550. I use the JB and it's much better than the stock.. So maybe you wanna try your JB in the RG first. My had the V2 stock
JB made the sound much better. Not much warmer but fuller tighter much more cutting. Like robert said it's a solid sound.
I've blocked the trem which maybe increase the sustain and maybe made the guitar a bit thicker

Re: bridge PU for Ibanez RG550

i got a JB in my 550. Good sound for what i use it for. When i want a full sound i just bump up to the Jazz in the neck

which patb are you talking about the tb-5 custom?
for the RG guitars get the parallel axis PA-TB1 set
this set is designed for a ibanez type guitar and will add back the body in the tone the RG lacks
Original Parallel Axis Trembucker™
see | hear | specs | dimensions
PA-TB1 -- This humbucker is specially calibrated for either the neck or bridge position. Its spacing is also adjusted to allow for precise string alignment. Its tone is sweet and bluesy. The more gain you add, the more it sings. Available in black only.
