Bridge Pup in the neck?

Okay, here's a question that most likely was asked before, but....

can you put a bridge pup in the neck position and what affect will that do?

( I was thinking of putting a hot rails bridge in the neck, STK-S2 middle in the middle and a twangbanger in the bridge.)

Yeah, this is my first time replacing pups.

Re: Bridge Pup in the neck?

1. bridge pups are usually are winded hotter to make up for low string movement near bridge so may be too hot in other positons

2. Same idea, now the pickup is seeing a differnt set of harmonics so it will pass a differtn sound

3. Some are physically different, it Tele bridge and neck pups are different sizes altogether

Have fun!

Re: Bridge Pup in the neck?

This is one of those things that you just have to try and see for yourself. I know that some folks here have had good luck with pups in the "wrong" slot.

I put a Distortion (neck) in the bridge of a guitar, with a Cool Rails (bridge) in the neck. Trying to make a "poor-mans" Cyclone. It was awful. That same Distortion is one of my favorite pups in the neck, (where it belongs), of that same guitar. The Cool Rails is great in the bridge of my Strat.

Its just one of those things. :)

Re: Bridge Pup in the neck?

Usually you should have the hottest pickup in the bridge, next hottest in middle, etc. Three bridge hot rails since they're equal may work.

Re: Bridge Pup in the neck?

Bridge pickups on the neck can sound too dark or even muddy. They are wound to compensate the trebly tone of the string near the bridge. But as Artie said it may work for you...

Re: Bridge Pup in the neck?

I've heard good things about putting vintage humbuckers in the neck when they're the bridge model(59, jazz, aph ect.). there was a post about that not too long ago IIRC

Re: Bridge Pup in the neck?

Its true, some people here on the forum swear by putting either a Jazz or '59 bridge in the neck position. They say it sounds slightly darker and fuller, but I've never tried it myself personally.

Re: Bridge Pup in the neck?

The aph-1 sounds pretty nice. going from very smooth to extremely smooth lol, but a nice thick full sound. My seth gets a great split tone, something else to consider. I tried the aph1-n after having the bridge model in my guitar, and it just sounded...thin. Honky. whatever. Careful. that kind of fatness in the neck is addictive.:wall:

Re: Bridge Pup in the neck?

Maybe i should try the twangbanger in the neck and keep the hot rails in the bridge position.. Just cause the twangbanger is the least hottest pup i'm dealing with.

Re: Bridge Pup in the neck?

I put a CR in the neck of my strat and love it. I haven't tried it anywhere else yet so I couldn't so if I like it better in the mid or bridge.

Re: Bridge Pup in the neck?

I'd say you wouldn't want to put a bridge Hot Rails in the Neck because even in the bridge position where it belongs, some people would say it's too muddy

Re: Bridge Pup in the neck?

Okay, so the hot rails in the bridge, STK-S2 in the middle, now to figure out the neck.... damn and i wanted to try something ...maybe i'll try that lil59 bridge in the neck.....

Yeah, its whatever i can scrounge up and buy off of ebay. Right now, there's a nice lil59b and a SVR-1n that i'm looking at. I've already got the hotrails and the STK-S2.
