Bright guitar?

I have an alder body maple neck/fretboard MIM strat that I'm going to be swapping the pups for either APS-1's or SSL-1's but am still having trouble deciding which to go with. I like my tone to be pretty bright and chimey so that suggests the SSL's. But I'm worried that that could be too bright. I love the acoustics of my guitar but at times it sounds overly bright through my classic 30. So how can I determine whether it is bright or not? Set all the EQ knobs at 12 o'clock and play?

Well, I guess you could do that, but your ears perceive things differently all the time, so the conclusion that you make at a certain time regarding your pickups may not be the same conclusion 3 hours later. I haven't found my MIM Strat to be terribly bright, but it is rather "breathy" in tone compared to my main Bastardcaster Tele. I think you should dump a Quarter Pound Strat or a Hot Rails in the bridge position, then go lower in output as you go towards the neck, ending with maybe a Vintage at the neck, which most certainly will not be too bright.

just gotta bite the bullet dude........cant spend too much time thinking about it..... just get em from some place with the return policy. I returned my Ant II surfer to guitar heaven and they quickly shipped out the ant I texas hot as i requested

pick whichever you think might work best, and just be willing to maybe have to use the 21 day return policy if they aren't to your liking

Well I was planning on getting them from Lew, so he could wire them up for me on a new pickguard.
