Brighter Seth Lover Neck?

I just got a new Heritage Prospect with the solid center block. It's a great smaller sized ES-335. It came with Seth Lover's in the neck and bridge. Overall I love the tone, but wish the neck position was a bit brighter. Lowering it helps reduce the mud, but it's out of balance with the bridge when they are used together then. Would an A3 magnet in the Seth do the trick? Would a covered '59 be better? Thanks!

You could remove the cover of the Seth...or replace it with a Pearly Gates.

The PGn is my favorite neck humbucker...you can special order one with a nickel cover if you like the covers.

The Jazz n would be a nice choice too, although the PG probably has more mids.

Personally, I'd start with a Pearly Gates neck.

I agree with lew on that one... A PG would be a great place to start... and finish ;)

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I want to retain the cover on any pickup I use on this guitar. I have an unused nickel cover that will work. I'm also going to try playing with relative heights some more and the pole/screw heights as well before I do anything.

Re: Brighter Seth Lover Neck?

Yeah I felt the same way abut the Seth neck at one point. A3 definitely won't help. It is not brighter than A2, it just has a shifted midrange, and slightly less bass. I managed to find a level I was happy with by tweaking the height & poles like you said. I prefer to call it "rich" rather than bassy/muddy. Beautiful cleans!

Sell it and buy a PGn or Jazz N. I also tried to like the Seth neck, but it's too dark and soft for my taste. I like punchier brighter neck pickups, so those 2 are what you want. I still like the Seth bridge a lot though.

By the way, that's a sweet looking amp in your avatar. Who makes it, and do you have a link?

A3 is definitely brighter to my ear, though maybe not by enough to do the trick for this guy. Try lowering pu but raising the polepieces.
