I've noticed a few guys (myself included) have paired a PAF bridge pup with the Brobucker. If so which bridge pup? Likes? Dislikes?

Guys using regular neck pups....same thing which pup? Likes? Dislikes?

I wondering if this is a trend, or something just off the wall?

I'm using a bridge Alnico 2 Pro. I love the clean and mixed tones. very very warm. But can sound muddy on lower strings in the upper register.

Re: Brobucker's neck mate?

Right now I have a DiMarzio PAF in the neck, it's either a bridge or neck pickup so I said "yes" in the poll. It's not staying though. The enhanced lows of the PAF overpower the Brobucker when they're on together playing clean. Overdriven is OK though. I think the Jazz will be the better match, but my Jazz is a neck version. So in another few days, my vote will change to "no". :)

Five votes and only three replies (four now) and one (two now) of those are from a guy who doesn't even have the pup. :smack:

C'mon guys.

Re: Brobucker's neck mate?

Jolly called me up one day and "man, I just put a Jazz bridge in the neck of one of my Pauls, and it's the best damn neck pickup I've ever heard."

The Jazz bridge actually sounds really good in strats, alongside vintage singles, and even Seymour suggests it, but anyhow, I took that pickup out of my strat, put a nickel cover on it, and installed it in my LP Goldtop with the Brobucker.
The Jazz neck has great clarity, but it's a little tame. The Jazz bridge in the neck has the same clarity, but a little more output, which mates nice with any Custom, C-5, or CC, but also the vintagey hot Brobucker. There's never any mud on low notes, and the high notes sound just as full as a 59N, if not fuller. It makes good sense to use Duncan's lowest output bridge humbucker as a neck humbucker. It'd be funny if people started considering both of them neck pickups! The Jazz bridge is also a surprisingly good bridge humbucker too, and it's too bad it's overlooked. It's got great balance, clarity, and output........notice it's listed in the 'Progressive' section, not the vintage section on the humbucker page.

Re: Brobucker's neck mate?

I am using my Wagner Fillmore neck and it's a hot neck at 10.5k. It matches VERY well with the Brobucker.
