Brownbox??

Wasnt sure whether this should be in amps or effects, but its a variac, soooo.. Has anyone tried a Brownbox?? Id never heard of it before and I saw a gear rundown with Brad Paisley and he uses one with an old marshall head. Did a search and voila! Anyhow, Was wondering if anyone has or has used one??? If so, opinions?? If not, consider this a PSA as we often talk about variacs and such.

Brownbox??

Sure , why not? Mercury Magnetics offers a lowered voltage of many of its power transformers for this reason. In fact if I build another brown deluxe I will buy the lower powered B+ version. I had to use Zeners to get the voltage to drop into what I felt like was the sweet spot of the amp.

You are really not going to hurt your amp if you take it down a bit.

65 amps claims to have a master volume that is an overall voltage drop. I've not hooked up a meter to it but I will say it's effective the first 30-40% as you turn it down but I also didn't care for it as I turned it way down.

Running that variac with a 20% reduction would likely sound great on a vintage amp.

$50 version.
