Buddy Guy Signature Strat

Anybody familar with this strat. It's black with white polka dots. It looks like a good guitar. Not a big fan of Polka dots, though. I saw Buddy Guy play the original on a recent PBS TV show that had him, Jimmy Vaughan, BB King and Clapton playing on the same stage. Jimmy Vaughan and Buddy Guy had big loud leads. Clapton's leads were very refined and his volume wasn't as loud. BB King was somewhere in the middle on volume. Is this because of the hotter pickups, their style or a bad soundman?

I'd say that probably had very little to do with the guitars they were playing, and was probably the soundman or the way the sound was edited for TV.

It could also have something to do with their styles??? I came away thinking Buddy Guy was a hot player. Jimmy Vauhan was loud. And I wish I could have heard Clapton better. He was smooth, though.

i saw that and i think it was just the mix they had........ there was 5 or 6 players up there...... they had it set so that buddy was over the top because he had just come on stage......and everybody was just playin rhythm and filling in the sound......just turned out jimmy vaughns sound was higher in the mix than the other rhythm players

Keep this in mine...there ae 2 different BG sig Strats...one is US and has lace sensors and comes in white and 2 color burst, the other is MIM and THAT is the one that is black and while polka dots...the MIM has crappy ceramic pups, junk hardware, and no after market part fit it real good...it just looks like Buddys, BUDDYS polka dot strat is set up just like the US models but the US models do NOT come in the polka dot...did that make sence?

I didn't see the whole show. But in the song, I'm referring to, BB King was on vocals and at one point they each took a turn at a lead. I was surprised that Eric Clapton wasn't a loud as Jimmy or Buddy. I thought it might be that Jimmy Vaughan has hot texas pickups. Or that Clapton doesn't rely on volume as much to get his point across. His playing was tasty and I enjoyed them all. It must be hard to mix that many guitars. Maybe Clapton makes you listen a bit closer to catch everything he does?

Actually, the MiM BG has a great neck and Fender/Gotoh tuners like those on the American Vintage Reissues. It does have the standard crappy MiM pups and MiM bridge, but there should be some aftermarket solutions to correct it. This approach seems to hold for all of the signature MiM models (except perhaps for the JV): you get a good neck and body, and one or two additional good upgrades (i.e., pickups, bridge, tuners), but not all three. So, you get an AVRI bridge and pickup with the MW Tele but Ping tuners, AVRI bridge and CS pups with the RC but Ping tuners, etc.
