Budget Guitars

Re: Budget Guitars

Definitely check the PRS SE line. I own several of them, soapies , semi hollow, 245 . Feel , play and sound like a much higher priced guitar. Pups swaps as necessary, but they use decent pots and switches. The upper end Epi LPs are pretty nice too. Not sure about your area but Craigslist here in offers up a lot of good deals on both.

Re: Budget Guitars

its kind of both. I think its mostly the action on it. I have the original bridge jazzmaster bridge and I can't just bang away like I want. I heard getting the mustang bridge makes it a new guitar. I find the neck a bit "sticky" (I keep my guitar clean, i just think it's the finish on it.)

My prescription is two SD Antiquity pickups and one really good set-up. This will involve shimming the neck and making changes in the bridge/tailpiece department. Some people like Mustang bridge saddles. I elected to get the Staytrem bridge assembly and arm à la Johnny Marr signature Jaguar. Make sure that the floating vibrato tailpiece lock plate is properly adjusted. String up with (absolute minimum) .010-.046, preferably, something heavier.
