Budget shred stick

Working out a deal with Artie for the RG.

I've had a bunch of RGs, but I don't think I've ever had anything with an original Edge.

Yeah, and it doesn't show up there very well, probably due to my photo skills. It's like a purple metal flake, that has some weird coating over it, so that the color underneath shows through at the edges and curves. It's a shame the previous owner didn't take better care of it.

I'm more comfortable with a beat up guitar.

So the whole thing is purple-ish, not just around the edges? I'm excited to check it out in person.

I love that color. In a few pics the body looks like an S series shape from the top but its thickness from the side looks like an RG.
In any case I love it!

Definitely a purple. I'll see if I can snag a better pic tomorrow if we get some of that Florida sunshine.

It looks like a red guitar that someone did a reverse burst on.

I can see how it might look red-ish. That's my poor photo skills and lighting.

You might be able to find a used G&L Tribute Legacy HB for $350. There was a black model made about 7–9 years ago that was really nice for the money. Came with a Floyd Rose Special.

Here's one for $359.17 or best offer, but local pickup only (I get so annoyed by that, especially for an easily shippable item). Maybe you can talk the guy into shipping.

Artie, that's an RG600-series guitar from 1987. They only made them for 2 years and they weren't shown in the U.S. catalogs as I recall.

Here's another like it (from Russia): https://reverb.com/item/16524603-iba...-crystal-pearl

Being from 1987, the black with red/magenta highlights is likely a factory finish. There were TONS of finishes produced by Ibanez during the 1986-1991 period that were never advertised in the catalogs. Also, you will find examples of the 1987 "Radius" and the 1986 RoadStar II in this particular finish.

I've owned dozens of cheap shredders over the years, here is my experience:

For cheap shredders I've always loved the Jackson's. (I feel naked without at least 1 in the stable)
Great guitars for the money. I haven't always liked their version of the licensed floyd, but with a few adjustments they can play as good as many middle of the road guitars easily.
I always end up swapping a pickup out and that also helps tremendously. Stock Jackson pups have gotten better but they're still crap.
the last one I bought needed about 20 minutes with a file to smooth fret sharpness, but after a setup, it completely wails.

Here's the most recent cheap shredders of mine: to which I wired in a dimebucker

The cheap Dean's have been hit or miss for me. Their floyd's are just ok. Sometimes they are really heavy. Pickups are crap.

The cheap BC Rich's have always been really good for me, and often don't even need a pup swap. Winners in my book.

I've never been a fan of cheap ibanez guitars ever. Their floyd's from what I've seen just plain suck. I don't like their designs...just my opinion. Pickups are crap.

Used esp's could be a very good choice. Pickups are just ok. Build quality is good.

In addition to Artie’s RG, I found an LTD M-1000 locally that I’m probably gonna do some swapping for.

When I said budget, I meant inexpensive. Keep your eyes open, be a little patient, and the good ones can be had for the price of the el-crapola offerings.

Thanks masta 'c. That's definitely it. It's definitely factory. There's a little purple "splash" on the neck in the neck pocket.
I wished I'd seen that before I offered it for $350. :D

Hey man, if you wanna put it on Reverb or whatever, I won’t be mad. As I mentioned in the other post, I found an LTD M-1000 locally I’m trading for, so there’s a Floyd-guitar in my future regardless.

I was joking man. It's yours if you want it. But let me know, one way or the other. No harm either way. Here's the neck pocket pics. (These are old. I didn't take it apart for these.)

After masta 'c's post, maybe this is an RG-665.

Its a real relic. Rock it out!

Just saw the pics... Thats a missing link guitar in the evolution of the superstrat. The neck pocket is for 22 frets, but they extended the fretboard to 24 frets. And even though its an "RG" it doesnt yet have the iconic shape. Probably worth more than 350 to an Ibanez historian.

In that case, I’ll still buy it, but I promise it’s not to flip :) I’m gonna call this one good karma for the sh*tload of gear I’ve given away over the last few months.

Ibanez tends to use the same neck on multiple models. I’ve had a couple RG7421 guitars with 7621 necks, and a 470 with a 570 neck.

Cool. Still waiting for the nut lock clamps. And . . . I don't care if you flip it. Once it isn't mine, I don't care. ;)

As a general rule, if someone cuts me a deal, I’ll do the same if/when I sell it. Too many people make constant withdrawals from the karma bank without ever paying in.

What an interesting curiosity. It just shows the guitar companies were trying to adapt as trends were changing. Everyone thinks the 80s/90/s can be grouped into one or 2 things don't realize that trends in guitars were changing monthly.
