Buffer/ Boost Pedal Suggestions

So I was kinda hoping my Soul Food would fill this void being that it's able to switch between true bypass & buffered but I tried it & I didn't like having my pedal chain setup that way? So basically I need a good buffer but it also needs to have some kind of level knob because I've got a few guitars that are setup a little funny and I have to use my pedals to even out the signal? So Ideally I'd like to keep things under $100, mostly because its just a buffer & boost pedal and I just can't justify spending $250 on one of the worlds easiest pedal circuits??? Suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Re: Buffer/ Boost Pedal Suggestions

Buffers are not boosters!
And boosters are not buffers.....while they can be high to low impedance( that is what a buffer is, changing the impedance from high, prone to picking up noise, loosing mv if it sees too much resistance and so on!

Re: Buffer/ Boost Pedal Suggestions

Best go DIY in that case. One could easily build you a booster (ex: mxr micro amp) + a buffer (such as the one used in the centaur) and both could be footswitchable. All could easily be done within your budget easily.

Re: Buffer/ Boost Pedal Suggestions

I don't know how much they are anymore but the Katana Boost from Keeley works as a great buffer for my big board. It also allows me to dial in a little extra boost when it's needed.

I probably should have been a bit more specific, ^^^^ that's pretty much what I'm looking for? I understand that buffers & boost pedals are two different monsters but I know I've seen both in one stomp box before? It may have been a custom build, but I'm positive that they do exist? If finding one proves to be too complicated I can just get a buffer & a boost but I've already got a pretty long chain so if I can get what I want out of one box instead of two that would be ideal? I'm running 9-10 pedals on the floor and my reverb through the loop right now, hence the reason I need a buffer, but a clean boost placed after my Soul Food, Swell, & Metal Muff would make my life much more easy!!!

Re: Buffer/ Boost Pedal Suggestions

Yeah man, I just looked up the Keeley Katana & it's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for? They are selling for about $200 new right now but I'm going to look around for a used one or something comparable? Like I said it would be nice if I could keep things around $100? Maybe a kit is the way to go, it's not like it's a very complicated circuit & I'm sure I could build one in an afternoon??? But if anyone else knows of anything else that's like the Keeley please chime in....

Re: Buffer/ Boost Pedal Suggestions

You won't find too many Keeley Katanas used. The people who buy them tend to hang on to them. For a reason.

Re: Buffer/ Boost Pedal Suggestions

It's hard to beat Seymours own SFX-01. Especially if you do my dirt simple one resistor mod that brings the input impedance back up to 1meg and lowers the output by 6db.

MXR MC401 Boost/Line Driver might be what your looking for, look for a used one
