Build advice

So I picked up a cheap knock off les Paul as a build. One of the tunning pegs was broken so I planned on replacing them but the pegs I got are too wide. Do tuning pegs come in different sizes or should I carefully widen the gaps? This is my first build/customization. Any and all help is appreciated. Also unsure of what pickups to throw in it. I play hardcore meets punk meets rock

Re: Build advice

Yeah they come in basically two main sizes:

vintage kluson style tuners need an 11/32" mounting hole

modern tuners like Schaller, Grover, Gotoh modern style tuners require a 3/8" or 10mm hole.

You can get conversion bushings to convert a 3/8" hole to an 11/32" hole, but if your holes are too small for the tuners, you might want to invest in a step drill bit or a reamer to enlarge the holes carefully to the right diameter.

as for the pickup choices, ask in the pickup lounge and make sure to include as much information as possible including your amp/speaker cab, any pedals, woods in your guitar etc.

Cheers

Re: Build advice

Just drill out the existing holes. Drill about 3/4 of the way though from each side to avoid splintering. Easy.
