Why cigar boxes? Do they sound good?

I think because during the Depression people who couldn't afford to buy a guitar built them. These have existed since at least that time, maybe earlier. Do they sound good? Yes, if done right they are very cool. I've seen some really nice work done. They are fun to play and fun to make. So why not?
