Burstbucker Pro uneven coil wind question

Re: Burstbucker Pro uneven coil wind question

Have you considered that slugs and screws aren't made from the same alloy?

All of the common alloys used have substantially similar permeability values, and the majority of the magnetic circuit is air, which further minimizes any differences with respect to the steel.

And that longer screws create less focus from shorter screws? Which is the opposite of what your saying, as lowering a pickup creates more focus.

"Focus" is not a word I used. What I said was magnetic reluctance, raising or lowering the pickup increase or decreases the air gap between the strings and the pole pieces, increasing or decreasing the reluctance. When you have a long screw, the bottom half of the screw is opposite polarity of the top half of the screw, in effect "drawing away" magnetism from the guitar strings.

Re: Burstbucker Pro uneven coil wind question

Well, I refuse to take any further part in debate irrelevant to the original topic, especially because neither of us are willing to give up any ground. You have your fancy terminology and I have my practical experience. I'll make you a deal. On every pickup you wind, the slugs will be hotter. On literally every other pickup in the world, they won't be. That way everybody can be happy.
