Come on, we know the ultimate answer here : Alnico 2 neck, 59 bridge!! Dont forget your TS 808!

Wouldn't the alnico 2 in the neck provide an even warmer tone than the alnico V in the 59N? Although I haven't tried it yet...people complain that the 59N is too dark...

I dunno...I'm so aprehensive on buying a pup for this Paul. I've been through at least 2-3 sets of pickups for this thing and I've never been happy. I'm starting to think that balancing a Les Paul, pickup wise, is far more difficult than balancing any other guitar...

Re: Burstbucker Pro's

I hadn't considered that combination. Sounds great. And you think they will blend well? I'm all over the TS 808! + Alnico 2 Neck + '59 bridge + Hot Rod Deluxe = Bad ass blues and classic rock. Right on.

Re: Burstbucker Pro's

Does the Pearly Gates neck give a nice clean tone (chimey) like the Jazz with a slightly driven amp? I could always install a coil split (push-pull tone pot) to chime up on occasion. Don't play that way alot, but like to have the option.

Re: Burstbucker Pro's

getting complicated. Just need to spend some money and try some out. Which combo would blend the best:
PG neck, '59 bridge
A2 neck, '59 bridge
Jazz neck, '59 bridge: will the jazz neck limit my blues/classic rock tones?
as you can tell, i'm tring hard to get this decision made. Thanks all, for input.

Re: Burstbucker Pro's

all 3 sets would be just fine...the Jazz would not limit your classic rock tones. As for blending someguys would tell you o stick with only one kind of magnet which would leave you with the jazz/59 combo, which BTW, would be a great set up...I tend to lean more towards alnico II pickups like the PG, Seth and Antiquitys but it's all up to you...remember Duncan has a 21 exchange policy...get a set of pickups, try them and if you don't like them swap them out!

Re: Burstbucker Pro's

Thanks so much. I'm confident with your opinions. So the Jazz is alnico V? Are all P.A.F. style alnico 11?

Re: Burstbucker Pro's

You could spend all day reading about PAF style pickups...in real 50's PAF's you could find alnico 2, 3, 4, and 5, In the Duncan line they use either 2 or 5.

The Jazz and 59 are alnico 5
The Pearly Gates, Alnico II Pro, Seth and Antiquity are Alnico II

If you do a search on the forum you will find pages and pages of info on Alnico II vs. 5

Re: Burstbucker Pro's

I'm gonna pick your brain one more time: I'm now leaning toward your preference of an alnico 2 pair. IYO, what would YOU put in a epi lp for blues/classic rock?

Re: Burstbucker Pro's

well...my favorite Duncan buckers are the Peraly Gates set and the Antiquity set. I have a Gibson Moderne with the PG set and my R8 has the Antiquity set and I love them both, Seth's are another great A2 PAF choice...I don't own any Seths but I do like the tone of them. I have another dual bucker with a Alnico II Pro in the neck and a CC in the bridge and it's cool but not what I would call vintage...modern vintage but not vintage. To answer your question if I were gonna put pickups in another Les Paul right now it would be a Peary Gates set or maybe a set of Seths since I don't have any but more tha likely a set of PG's.

Re: Burstbucker Pro's

Thank you for all of your help. I had originally thoought that pearly gates pair is what I wanted (even before the lp purchase.) So many choices that I got lost. We've come back the PG's and I think I'm going with 'em. I won't be disappointed in any of the vintage style pu's, i'm sure. There will be more pickups and more guitars in my llife, before i'm gone so anything will be better than the import pups in the Epiphone. I'm saving for a real Fender Strat and a real Gibson Les Paul. I just need the chops to justify the expenses. Thanks again -- a great learning experience!

Re: Burstbucker Pro's

I will suggest that when you drop in the new pickups drop in a set of 4, 500k pots, new caps (Orange drops) and maybe even a new switchcraft switch...those things will make all the difference in the world!

Re: Burstbucker Pro's

i myself purchased a bb pro bridge. it sounded way better then the stock epi pickup. but in the end, it was a little to think. my fav players are edge, page, hendrix and bb king, so i wanted more clarity then oomph. i purchased a pearly gates for the bridge and its amazing. just what i needed:) i put the bb pro in the neck to replace the stock epi pup, but im sure when i have the money im going to either get an AP2 or a 59 instead, for the tone, tapping and price, who wouldnt?
