how come nobody here likes burstbuckers and 57 classics? i like my seymour duncans, but alot of people say that these pickups give a real classic les paul tone. what do you guys think of these, compared to sd pickups like the seth lover, antiquity, and a2p? thanx

Re: burstbuckers and 57 classics

The 91 LP Classic I bought recently came with '57 Classics installed. I haven't decided yet whether to keep them or change them. I am playing that guitar a lot and it sounds great and is suitably versatile. The '57s have a punchy rock tone, but also clean up nicely for blues and jazz sounds. However, the Seths in my 96 Standard are definitely sweeter, warmer and more complex.

I'm still weighing up my options - I have a spare set of '59s that I know sound great (used to have those in the Standard), but I'd really like to try a set of A2Ps too. Or Antiquities, PGs or more Seths. :smack:

But the '57 Classics are certainly good pickups for classic rock and blues. It may end up being a case of "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

Re: burstbuckers and 57 classics

I put a '57 Classic/Classic Plus set in my Epi Sheraton before I stumbled upon this website/Forum......I thought they were fantastic for blues/classic rock & the neck got nice & smooth jazzy tones when the tone & volume was rolled down.

Price wise, I think the SDs give an equal if not better tone for a fair amount less than Gibsons.

I've never played the Burstbuckers, but I've heard a lot of love 'em/hate 'em stories....I guess they're an acquired taste like everything else.

I like both, just not my favorite.

Me too. I like them both...I just like Seth Lovers, 59's, CC's and Antiquitys more.

Re: burstbuckers and 57 classics

of the guitars i have played with both i was not impressed. they weren't terrible but they weren't very good either. they don't have a classic PAF sound to them, at least to me. The best paf soundsi have found come from antiquities. so smooth and sweet when clean and raw when distorted. there is a complexity that even other duncans don't have and none of the gibson pickups had it either. Now the normal production line duncans seem to sound better than the gibsons to my ears i think because they aren't so top heavy. I like the balanced eq much better than the high oriented gibson pickups. like i said before though, this is just what i hear
