Umm, actually, it's "but for all intensive purposes"... :D

you're joking, right? ... i mean, 'intensive' is probably the most common mispronunciation of "intents and" in the phrase ... but it is simply dead wrong in context ...

Yes, I'm joking :D I don't think you were harsh, either. You could've said something like, "Hey f*ckwad... Speak English your whole life?"

Re: Buying Used?

I've never bought a bad used guitar. I did buy a used McCarty that needed some humidification on the neck, but it turned into a great player that I turned a profit on.

Sometimes, there are some new guitars that just kick my butt and I have to buy. Other times, I buy new amps (not often though). But, there are times....

(with some of the boutique builders, if you don't have one of their dealers nearby, they'll often sell to you at the dealer price.)

maybe harsh was a bad term for me to use, but it means to directly correct or criticize in a public forum........railing usually involves making someone feel dumb amongst his peers.......i know you had no malice when you said it, but it came off as that "im not insulting you, but dude, seriously get with it" attitude that i find funny :D........eh, no big deal

Re: Buying Used?

Well, guitars are bought, not sold. I never care about resale value, as I won't sell them.

The used market over here is negligible. Can't really buy used, as I have quite a specific taste. If a correct item came up with the right price, of course I'd jump for it.

I think a wise person buys an instrument and cares for an instrument with resale value in mind.

Someone who doesn't respect their guitars with resale value in mind do this to guitars:

Bad Coconuts.

Re: Buying Used?

I have yet to buy a new guitar, used is your friend!! lol, by buying used I got a limited edition sony minidisc player for 63 bucks shipped where it retailed for 450 only in japan in 1996 O_O!! I know that's completely different but w/e used rocks.

Re: Buying Used?

I just sold my Godin LG-SP90 and broke even on it. So, I played a new guitar for a few months, enjoyed it a lot, sold it and didn't lose any money. That has something to do with the Godin prices seeming to go up a bit.

Buy used and play for free. It's like an honest rental program where you don't have to pay rent! It's a sound strategy.

Re: Buying Used?

In my case I don't pay a lot of attention to resale value. I have managed to keep everything I have bought. I am careful to be certain what I want and I am ver slow in makind a decision. The only time I would say you need to be careful in purchasing a used instrument is when it is of a vintage quality. YOu need to be certain that it has ALL the original parts. neck etc. Other than that I think buying used is a better way to go. It is necessary to buy the guitar with some form of guarantee or to have it inspected by a qualified tech. to make certain that it will play properly.

Re: Buying Used?

New amps-- used guitars. I will buy a new bass guitar as they just seem to keep getting better and better. Historically, guitars tend to suffer by the sheer fact that they are always going to be overproduced, hence suffer from poor QC. Some new acoustics are a better value since under warranty issues such a falty bracing can be remedied on the manufacturer's dime. Also, many used acoustics have heavy fret wear due to heavy string gauges-- it would have to be a great acoustic to invest in repairs and upgrades; same goes with electrics.
