BUZZZZ..please help!

Hey y'all - just bought a JB model humbucker (full size). I also picked up a (separate) Duncan Classic Cover for it. My music store fellows told me that as long as I soldered the cover to the pickup around the bottom that I was good to go. I install it with the (soldered) cover, and it's buzzin', a LOT. I took it apart, and all the ground wires are still intact. Please help - I need this thing to work by Thursday!

Thanks!!

Oops - probably worth mentioning that the JB is replacing whatever pickup (a DS-1, something like that?) came stock in the bridge of my 2000 Fender American Standard Fat Strat. I'm no wiring genius, I just replaced the stock 'bucker wire-for-wire. Hope this helps - thanks again!! :duh:

Need a multi-meter to know for sure if the joint is good. Make sure your axe is completely strung up before checking also. In my experience, the axe will hum alot more if the strings aren't on it.

Also a heads up-have to repot the pup if you put a cover on it to avoid squealing and feedback.

Re: BUZZZZ..please help!

When you replaced the stock 'bucker, did you make sure you followed the right colour schemes. I may be wrong, but the stuck pickups probably have a different meaning for some of the wire colours than the SDs.

Edit: this is a rather stupid question in hind sight, I guess. If it's working more or less right, but just buzzing a lot, the problem probably lies elsewhere.

Actually, that may not be that stupid. ;)

If the original wiring looked like this:

Then I believe, the new wiring should look like this:

The Duncan and the Fender aren't wired exactly the same. I'm not positive about this, but pretty sure.
