Cab recommendations?

I would like to get a new cab. I currently have a Marshall MG cab, and its decent, but I want something better. I don't have a super high budget (Mesa and Orange are out) but high enough to get good quality and good speakers (blackstar, peavey?). I have a Randall RG1003H head and play mostly thrash/traditional metal. I probably wont get it really soon, I'm just getting ideas right now. I'm open to 2x12s and 4x12s.

Re: Cab recommendations?

Check into a Peavey MC212. It's a vertical cab with two Celestion G12K85 speakers, whicn are good sounding 100 watt units.

Re: Cab recommendations?

Where do you live, If you can order from thomann in germany then go and order a harley benton cab with celestion v30 speakers. It's dirt cheap and sounds great, my guitar player uses the 2x12 and he loves it. They also have a 4x12 version, i think that the 2x12 is like 300-350 us dollars.

marshall 1960AV (slant top cab). these are exclusively voiced and original vintage 30. they do everything. extra heavy ceramic magnet. tight lows for palm muting, high mid emphasis and sweet highs.

if you want a bit more bass, try the 1960BV (straight cab).

Marshall 1936 vintage if you want V30s, regular if you want G12-75Ts this is if you want a 2x12, for a 4x12 I suggest a Marshall 1960BV or regular.

Re: Cab recommendations?

Why not just replace the speakers? That's what I would do.

because replacing speakers in a cheap cab is never the answer. A cheap cab will sound good no matter what speakers you put in them, a well built cab will not only last you a lot longer but it will sound much better.

Re: Cab recommendations?

^^
Do you mean "will not sound good"? Well, a cheap cab will never sound as good as a top of the line, it could sound enough better if it's well constructed to make speaker replacement an option. As long as you get a decent deal on the speakers.

Re: Cab recommendations?

Used mesa cab if you like the mesa v30s. Plenty of them on craigs and GC in the $400-$500 range.

If you have other specific speaker taste it's going to be hard to beat a custom avatar,,,,,,,and you can order them with mixed speakers and your own colors.
