hey guys i have a MESA recto 4x12 cab w/vintage 30's the cab is 8ohm and i use a MARSHALL 50 SL-X head with it . my questions are #1 would the marshall be better off at 16ohm into a 16ohm cab ? #2 is it ok to run the marshall at 8ohms i know it has a switch for it but i don't want to kill the tubes or transformer long term? #3 would i be better off switching to 16ohm speakers in this cab or selling it and getting a 16ohm cab? thanks scott

Re: cabinet help!

as long as there is an 8 ohm output on your amp, then you should be in business. you're not any better or worse off running it at 4 ohms or 8 ohms or 16 ohms...the important part is that the impedence of the cabinet matches that of the head

Re: cabinet help!

Matching up the cab and head's impedance is truly what is more important than anything else; you should be fine
