Cabinet Suggestions for Mesa Rectifier?

I have a Mesa 2x12 cabinet that I use with my Single Rectifier. It's loaded with Celestion Vintage 30s and sounds great. However, I'm thinking of upgrading to a 4x12; a rectifier just wants more speakers. Any suggestions?

I'm looking at Bogner cabinets. They just look beautiful. The cosmetic aspect has a certain cachet to it.

Really, part of the problem is my 2x12 Mesa cab is not wide enough for my Single Rec head.

Re: Cabinet Suggestions for Mesa Rectifier?

try out a marshall 1960A. or if you're in the V30 camp, try out the marshall 1960AV. or if you're on a tighter budget and still want a good sounding box, look into an avatar 4x12 with speakers of your choice.

But do they look cool? They need to look cool. :)

Man, it's so not me to be focused on the cosmetic aspect of the cabinet, but I really want something that's going to look classy. That's why I like the look of the Bogner cabs.

Bogner cabs got the bling fo rizzle dizzle. If you got the paper, I doubt you can do much better.

I've heard good things bout splawn cabs too. Maybe Xssive can share his input on those...

Re: Cabinet Suggestions for Mesa Rectifier?

I want to stick with V30s, but that's only because it's all I know, and I know I like 'em. Is there a speaker that's a better fit for Mesa Rectifiers?

Re: Cabinet Suggestions for Mesa Rectifier?

How do the V30's compare with the 75's or whatever with the rectifiers? I'm kind of in the market for a 2x12 closed back cab to go with my Road King combo. I was thinking of the standard Recto oversize, but now I have no idea.

i personally don't like them, but i'm one of few that shares that opinion. i just think they're a little on the harsh side for the rectifiers. the only time i've heard them work well with a rectifier is in a really sexy cabinet (bogner).

Re: Cabinet Suggestions for Mesa Rectifier?

Can't say I've ever tried the G12t75's with a recto before...but I'd say that the V-30's are perfectly suited to a recto as far as my needs go ;). Your mileage may vary though...

The G12t75's are...bleh. Very quiet speakers...and they sound too scooped and hollow to my ears.

Eminence governors are based off of the V30, and are a nice alternative. They have a bit less in the low end, and are a little bit easier on the ears in the high-mids. I wouldn't go so far as to call them a "better" V30 though...just a little different.

Mesa Recto 4x12

Orange 4x12

I'd gladly rock either one of these.

Re: Cabinet Suggestions for Mesa Rectifier?

Bogner, Splawn or Orange 4x12s. The Mesa cabs, while well built, just aren't as good sounding.

I'd have to disagree - the Mesa's sound just as good as the Bogners and Orange, but better than the Splawn, in my experience. It might be different for other styles of music/playing, though.

I'd just go with a Mesa.

The Mesa cab I had sounded just as good as the Orange cab I currently have. I'd say that their main difference was in the way they responded at various frequencies.... tonally they're both great cabs.

Sometimes I miss it, as it was a good sounding cab, but alas I can't afford to have two cabs lying around.

Re: Cabinet Suggestions for Mesa Rectifier?

Keep with V30s. Mesa got t right when they paired those two up. The V30 has an upper mid hump that really blends well with the recto's scooped upper mids.

Re: Cabinet Suggestions for Mesa Rectifier?

I have to say that I've had Marshall 4 x 12's, a MESA tall 4 x 12 and a MESA 2 x 12 Recto. Out of all of these I regret selling my purple Hendrix R.I slant loaded with Greenbacks... very sweet sounding and smooth, but the best thing was that it had good spread of sound. I sold this thinking that The Mesa cabs were better and what I found was both the 2 x 12 and the 4 x 12 loaded with V30's were harsh AND the sound was directional, i.e stand in front of it and great... loud, but stand just a foot to the side and where's the sound gone?? My band mates could never hear me!! So now I have a great cab, it's Mongotone 4 x 10, solid Mahogany cab with v10's (i think) but it sounds great. My mates say it looks like a piece of furniture, so no good for metal gods, but as it's ported at the back... it sounds BIG and the spread of sound is awesome, no mater where I stand I can hear VERY clearly.

I have to admit I am currently looking for another marshall or an ENGL, bit I want Greenbacks. Can't comment on Splawn, but I'd say that most guys on here seem to know alot about sound and tone so i'm sure they're cool.
