???Cables???

So what type of cables do you use for you rig, pedal board, etc..? I'm not asking want brand you use but actually what type of cable it is. I've been reading lots and lots of posts here and other fourms and there are lots of different opinions out there. From what I gathered from the differents posts it looks like you should use a low capacitance cable between the guitar and the first pedal or equiment in the rig to reduce any unwanted noise and or coloring because the signal is so weak, and for cables with in your rig you should use a twisted cable with a shielding wire only connected at one end inside the cable because the signal is stronger. For speaker cables you should use unshielded speaker cable. So whats your guy's opinion about this???:scratchch

P.S. I know that sometimes people do want a different cable between their guitar and the first peice equipment to color their tone, but I'm not looking to discuss that. I speaking about the more basic setup.

Re: ???Cables???

Doesn't anyone have any thoughts on this??????????? Where all the tone freaks????????????/

Re: ???Cables???

I use mainly mogmai cables and build them all myself there are quite a few good cable companies I just prefer Mogami but I wouldn't hesitate to use canare or any similar quality cable.

There is also lava and George L's but I enjoy building my own so I never really even looked into using them.

Re: ???Cables???

My long ones are Planet Waves and my patch leads are George Ls, which I built. Good stuff. I plan to replace the Planet Waves with George Ls someday.

I've no idea about your more technical questions, though.

Re: ???Cables???

I don't worry too much about cables as long as they're good quality.

I build my own from Mogami cable with techflex over them and amphenol jacks... plenty good for my humble needs.

Re: ???Cables???

I bought monster pro1000s but I am doing recordingz too

monster is awesome, they always honored their lifetime warranties for me - I just go exchange em at GC

Re: ???Cables???

I've been through a few phases with cable, and each time I did so due to overall improvements in both the dry and effected signals. I used George L's for both the longer cables and patch cables for a few years, then switched to an all Core X2 setup which I greatly preferred. When one of the long Core X2 cables died, I decided to try something else. I switched to Evidence Lyric HG, which is a low capacitance, solid core cable. I was stunned at the difference this cable made to my signal, particularly straight in to the amp. I then replaced the cable from the pedal board to the amp with Lyric HG, and then eventually re-patched the pedal board with Evidence Reveal, marking a return to a soldered setup. This is where my cable experimentation has landed, and I have no desire to change a thing. Here's the pedal board wired up with Evidence Reveal/Neutrik plugs...

Re: ???Cables???

I'll run either a Mogami or Spectraflex cable from my board to the amp, depending on what length I need, and use inexpensive but decent patch cables on the board, all two of them...LOL. I've got a wireless that I used from the guitar to the board.

Re: ???Cables???

My main cable is one I got from Studio E Music in Athens, Ohio around 1997. I also use colored patch cables I bought in bulk off eBay from god knows what vendor about 10 years ago. All have typical soldered ends (the patch ones are sealed in plastic, the main one has the screw-on covered ends). I think they total around $15 and I have no plans for changing them.

Re: ???Cables???

I have one of the fancy Monster Studio cables and it does have a certain sound that I like. Unlike many high end cables it doesnt sound like someone turned up the treble on my gear.

Having said that I usually like Planet Waves, they sound fine, are inexpensive and have a great warranty

Re: ???Cables???

George L's for my boards, and then one of 3 different cables depending on how I want the tone coloured:

- Divine Noise straight
- Divine Noise 50/50
- Lava Clear Connect

Like wahwah, I find the ultra-low capacitance of the Clear Connect to be much more transparent than the very high capacitance Divine Noise, which is noticeably darker sounding.

Just depends on the sound I need for the most part.

Re: ???Cables???

I run all CBI cables, cheap, made in the US and extremely durable. I'm not too worried about signal loss in my cables since I installed buffers into my guitars and at the beginning of my board.

Re: ???Cables???

I use the relabeled store-brand cables from Pasadena Guitars. Honestly, I find that most cables work just fine...unless they are broken. The only one I have that I don't like is a hand-me-down coiled one from the '70's. It's a total piece of crap tone sucker.

Re: ???Cables???

I use planet waves circuit breakers and hoss 6 inch trs pedal patch cables on my board. Im going to with a better patch set soon.

Re: ???Cables???

I've used Monster for quite a while, but it definitely has a hyped high end to it. Recently I tried Mogami 2524 with Neutrik connectors, and I was really impressed with how transparent it is. I'll be switching out all of my cable shortly.

For pedal board cables, I've tried cheapies, Monster, Planet Waves, and George L's. Of these I thought Monster and Planet Waves both sounded fine, though the Planet Waves cables (solderless) had some durability issues. OTOH I thought the George L's sounded awful; they sucked all of the lows out of the signal. Cheapies on the other hand rolled off all of the highs.
