Well, between out of town visitors, travel, terrible weather, and sundown coming earlier and earlier, it's been a while since I made any real progress on this. But finally, yesterday, I cut the neck pocket. It's starting to almost, kinda sorta look like a guitar.

Got a drill press for my birthday, so up next: drilling the post holes for the bridge.

Yeah, though I ordered from their website because I had a coupon.

Somewhere there's a thread where I talked a bit more about it, but the Search function doesn't seem to be pulling it up for me. Weird.

In short: Made by WD. Decent quality, though the fret edges are a little sharp. Not precisely how I'd spec out a custom build, but I dug the color and it was cheap.

Interestingly, the heel of the neck was wider than the mdf template I was using, so I had to sand the template to shape to match the neck, then do the routing. It was a several step process, fine-tuning everything on scrap wood until I could consistently get a clean pocket of the right size/shape.

Now that I've got the means to drill my own tuner holes reliably, I plan to tackle a from-scratch neck in the spring. Quite probably for an all-mahogany Telecaster build. Already have the body blank.

Is that neck from stratosphere on eBay?

I've never played any guitars with bubinga before, so this will be a first. There used to be a Warwick bass that used it, though I can't remember exactly how extensively; just recall that's where I first heard the name.

For my purposes, I just wanted something a little lighter in color than Rosewood. Was going to go Pau Ferro, but a) it often streaks in a not entirely pleasant way and b) Bubinga is PINK. How could I NOT get the pink one?
