calculating string tension?

Are there any formulas for calculating string tension? For example: if i had a .17 gauge string what would the tension be at the pitch G or B or even high E? How does the tension differ between a 25 1/2 scale guitar and a 24 3/4 scale guitar? What is a "low tension" string? How much does that affect the tension?

Any help would be much appreciated.
