Calling all those with EVH 5150 III

I bought a Boss NS-2 and caonnected it to my EVH 5150. If it's just connected through the guitar line, everything works sorta fina. I have to turn the threshold ALL the way up, otherwise it gives off this howling, nasty-ass feedback. Thought something might be wonky with the amp, but I had the same problem with my mate's Engl Savage, so I have to assume there's nothing broken atm. Anyway, if I also plug in the effects loop circuit, it bypasses all the volume controls on the amp. The only way to adjust volume is by turning the vol pot on the guitar. Is it really supposed to be that way?

It sounds like you're plugging your guitar into the noise gate into the FX return. Are you bypassing the preamp?

Plug into the NS-2 and straight into the front. Or plug your guitar into the amp. FX Send goes to the NS-2 input, and the output of that goes to the FX Return. All the controls on your amp should work fine then.

I have a NS-2 with my EVH 5150 III 50 watt. I use the X pattern method, running it through the front end and effects loop, and have no problem.

It sounds like you have noise coming from somewhere else, such as a bad
cable or bad ground on your guitar. You have to trace the source of the noise and get rid of it.

The 5150 III really doesn't need a noise gate, it's quiet on its own, I just use it to get dead silence when Im not playing

Re: Calling all those with EVH 5150 III

Thanks for the response, guys. Seems I've just connected it the wrong way. I'll try the X pattern when I get back to the bunker.
And actually, the ground in my guitar IS bad. I've just ordered new electronics for it - fried the ground in both pickups when I tried to wax pot them :P This'll be my fourth Invader...

Re: Calling all those with EVH 5150 III

I do. Had them for a few years though and they became sorta microphonic. Was getting a ton of noise, so I decided to try to pot them. Seemed easy enough. Ended up ****ing them up real bad only to find out that while they were indeed microphonic, the noise was actually coming from my mate's noise gate, which wasn't functioning properly. So yeah, f**k me :P
