Calling Dimarzio SC Experts.

Oh, there'll be some clips of the AZ/PAF combo. I've already been hounded by someone to provide pics and clips...LOL.

If you want to hear the Hollsworth/SDS-1's, listen to the first two Badlands records. They're out of print now but you can look for them on eBay and there's a few videos on youtube as well. Talk about a fat/creamy tone, Jake had it.

Ya, they're discussing Jake and Allan in the other thread. I don't guess it really concerns you what Allan used, since you're going for Jake's tone, not Allan's.

EDIT: Actually, it was Faraday who said Allan used a CS pup that was similar to a '59 neck in the bridge, not GWIF.

Everything I read said he uses a Holdsworth prototype in the bridge. I gotta find that thread.

I'm not necessarily going after his tone, I just love that guitar of his. I've tried going after other's tones before but discovered rather quickly that I still sound like me, just with a hint of their tone because of the same pickups, guitar or amp.

And, why don't you just use a JB? That's what Jake used mostly, according to that thread. He only used the Allan Holdsworth model in one of his guitars.

Re: Calling Dimarzio SC Experts.

It's harder for me to communicate exactly what I want in a neck SC than it is to describe what I look for in a bridge pup, if that makes sense. I know i don't want the neck pup to be too hollow sounding, i like my mids. and i guess i kind of want a good solid buckerish with single coil sweetness kind of sound....i think...

ugh, sooo hard to describe...:banghead::nervous:

maybe if someone could provide some clips of the pups mentioned so far or some artists that use them, i could make up my mind a little more quickly.

again take everything in the first (poorly written) paragraph with a grain of salt.:D

Maybe a Pro Track might be for you. I haven't heard it, but I've read plenty of reviews. Sounds like it's what you're going for. It's got a little humbucker tone in it, and a little single coil, too. I also think maybe a Duncan Lil' 59 might be your kinda thing, too.

Re: Calling Dimarzio SC Experts.

Ok, do this. Even though it's not noise cancelling, try an SDS-1. Read the description of it on the first page of this thread or the DiMarzio site and you'll know why.

Re: Calling Dimarzio SC Experts.

The SDS-1 looks like it might be just what I want. Just to make sure though since it is technically a bridge pup, it will fit in the neck slot no problem right?

also, what are some key moments on some of those youtube videos of jake e. lee, when he is using that pup? any other online clips of people using them?

Re: Calling Dimarzio SC Experts.

Check out the live version of "High Wire". It KILLS!!! He has the SDS-1's in the neck and middle so yes, they'll fit no problem. Pretty much all single coils are the same size, Strat-style anyway.

Re: Calling Dimarzio SC Experts.

I'm using a VV Blues neck with a Super Distortion bridge. Sounds nice. Very fat, warm, and smooth sounding.....high output, but not at all aggresive.

Are you using the Super Distortion Strat or the regular Super Distortion?

Re: Calling Dimarzio SC Experts.

do you know whether or not he's using those through the entire song?

i thought it looked like he only used it for the first solo just prior to the halfway mark, you can see him flip the switch. everything else sounded like the JB to me.

He used the Duncan CS Allan Holdsworth model in that guitar.

I'm not a Jake E. Lee expert, my bad.:nervous:

It's cool. The Allan Holdsworth sounds a lot like the JB. I've heard that it pretty much is a JB, except it's got 12 flathead screw poles. If that's the case, why is it a CS pup? Why isn't it just a SFC?

The intro to "Killer of Giants" is all done with the middle SDS-1, clean

The SDS-1 is basically one coil from a Super Distortion, with spacer-plate on the bottom and a small ceramic magnet on either side, and an added angled bit coming off the side so it fills a Strat type route. Very good pup.

Like BigDreamer said, he flips to them in the solos, especially the massive jam he goes off on.
