Not many people have seen one of these. It was made back around 1983 or 1984.

So lets hear it, what is it used for and were did it come from?

Triple L got it on the head!
It is used for cutting the nut shelf for a locking nut.
And hear are the other two that came with it.

I only used the ones for cutting the spring cavity and hole through the body a couple of time before I made my own, that cut a different shape spring cavity.
The one for cutting the nut shelf I have used many, many times.

Here it is set up for use. The way it was originally meant to be used was to (according to the instructions) guide a 1/4" Dia. spiral flute bit (that came with the fixtures/templates) right up against the aluminum....no bearing....NOT GOOD. The bit will and did gall the aluminum. A better way is to use a 1/2" Dia. x 1/4" cut length, 1/4" shank bit with a bearing on the shank. With the fixture for cutting the nut shelf you can use a 1/2" bit with a 5/8" guide collar also. I have dun it both ways.

This time I am using a 1/2" Dia. x 1/2" cut length bit with a bearing on the shank. I am using a little plexi template on top of the fixture to make it easier to adjust were the edge of the shelf will be in relation to the first fret.

This fixture also works great for holding the neck wile drilling the mounting holes.

And this is it with the peg head final thicknessed and the nut mounted. For mounting the nut this time I have used 2 black #4 x 3/4" Oval head screws. They go 1/2" into the neck without protruding out the back due to the veloute. They could go in 5/8" but I would need to use 1" screws and shorten them to 7/8"

Very cool. I always wanted to find one of them. My old boss said he had one from the 80s but couldn't find it so from that point on I was obsessed with finding one and never have. I also heard rumor of a metal neck pocket routing jig to put an angle in a typical strat pocket for a non-recessed dive only Floyd but never saw one of them.

Re: Can anyone gess what this is for?

My buddy Rossco Wright bot these back is 83/84 when we first stated installing Floyds. That is when I got the Gold OFR that is on my old Alder body. He gave them to me 20 some years ago. The one for doing the nut shelf has a slot in the bottom side to allow you to turn it over and cut the counter sinks for the screw heads.
I have never heard of the neck pocket template. Would be a cool addition to the set.
I would like to make a fixture for cutting the nut shelf that would be a bit easier to set up/aline and that wound index off of the #1 fret slot for the shelf position.
