Can anyone recommend a good hard rock/ metal instructional book?

I play mostly blues now, but frankly, I'm getting a little bored with it. I'm only 35 and still remember my younger days of VH, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, etc. I'm certainly not abandoning the blues, but I want to learn some different techniques. What are some good books available to learn some classic metal?

John petrucci -

wild stringdom

rock discipline

both are phenomenal books. My guitar teacher is working on his doctorate right now and he highly recommended these books to me.

I cannot thank you enough for this link. Years ago I bought his speed mechanics for lead guitar book. I found the tape awhile back but the book is long gone I guess, and I couldn't find it in the local stores. Love his stuff. That website has a ton of great info, and there's a few books there I wanna get.

Thanks again! :D

Anything from Troy Stetina is excellent. He also has a site and forum if you google his name. He goes from metal beginner rythm or lead and goes straight up to very advanced with his books. They are truly awesome for metal and run in a series, so you can pick the stage you think you're at.

You're very welcome! I have his Metal Lead Guitar Primer, LG Vol.1, Speed Mechanics, Total Rock Guitar, and his Signature Licks Best of Black Sabbath which I'm currently enjoying. It's great because on the included cd he plays at normal speed and slow speed which helps me a great deal. Great stuff!
