Can BlackOuts AHB-1 be Coil Tapped split put push pull buttons on them ?

Re: Can BlackOuts AHB-1 be Coil Tapped split put push pull buttons on them ?

no, but ahb-2 can be controlled output-wise via a jumper switch, or push/pull or any on/off switch.

Re: Can BlackOuts AHB-1 be Coil Tapped split put push pull buttons on them ?

I sure do wish they could.

Re: Can BlackOuts AHB-1 be Coil Tapped split put push pull buttons on them ?

I wanted to upgrade my older Schecter Hellraiser to the newer models with SLS Slim Line Series neck and body So I started looking around and found 2 really good deals a used like new 2014 Schecter Hellraiser-hybrid-SLS C-1 for $540 shipped or a Schecter Blackjack-SLS $550 Brand New

So this is my dilemma torn between these 2 deals but leaning towards the Blackjack love the look of the guitar mat black

Which would you choose ?

The most significant differences between your two chosen options is that the EMG-57/-66 pickup pair is voiced to sound more like passive units. (In my opinion, the rod polepieces contribute to the illusion.) The Blackouts AHB-1 aims to be higher output and a more modern voicing. The Blackouts Metal AH-2 is the version with the switchable output level.

I currently have an AH-2 (in lower output level mode) paired with a Live Wire Classic II N, on a twenty four fret, set neck, fixed bridge guitar. The combination works together nicely.

Re: Can BlackOuts AHB-1 be Coil Tapped split put push pull buttons on them ?

Thanks for the reply's

The Hellraiser i have now has EMG active 81TW/89 pickups with push pull pots on both volume nobs and it actually become one of my favorite features i use it alot Unforgettably neither the above the Hellraiser SLS or the Blackjack-SLS have this feature

I pretty much made up my mind going to grab the Blackjack-SLS so what would be a good pickup upgrade to go with similar to the EMG 81TW/89 should just swap them out put the EMG''s in the Blackjack or is there a better pickup combo look to ?
I don't have a clue about different pickups so any advise will help

So, what is the difference in tone and volume between the AHB-2 in low volume setting and AHB-1? Does the AHB-1 have scooped mids, while the AHB-2 more pronounced mids? (like the livewire metal?)

Re: Can BlackOuts AHB-1 be Coil Tapped split put push pull buttons on them ?

Couldn't you just pick whichever two HB'ers you like, split them with a push-pull, then run their output into the Blackouts Modular Preamp?

Seems like a simple solution with the added benefit of picking your own flavor of pup.

This is possible but at the same time its kinda strange. You connect the white and red wires from your pickup to different sides of the BMP1. 1 side sounds pretty normal the other side sounds kinda dull and bleh. It works you just dont have autonomy in choosing this or that coil.

Isn't there any device out there that will allow you to tap and split the AHB-1 BlackOuts so I can install the push pull pots without having to replace the pickups ?

Nope splitting AHB1's is quite impossible... just not going to happen they dont have the required wiring and adding it is severly problematic cause they are sealed in epoxy and you have to deal with the preamp.

Artie has confused the issue. His suggestion is excellent for passive humbuckers but inappropriate for active pickups.

Is there a better combination than the -81TW and -89? I think so. Their respective -X versions. :)

I have know idea. (Apparently, I am a moron.)

You lost me there on that one what is Their respective -X versions ?

Re: Can BlackOuts AHB-1 be Coil Tapped split put push pull buttons on them ?

^^^ more headroom, less noise, newer design, need new "active" pots. That's all I know.

Re: Can BlackOuts AHB-1 be Coil Tapped split put push pull buttons on them ?

EMG-81TW X and EMG-89 X.

EMG-81TW X and EMG-89 X.

Can't really find any reviews on this 81TW-X /8981TW-X combo.
How long has the EMG X version pickup been out year or months ?
Whats actually is the significance of this particular combo ?

Re: Can BlackOuts AHB-1 be Coil Tapped split put push pull buttons on them ?

Don't expect much change to the X-series, go get the older classic version if you can.

I need to get one of these things to play with.

It wouldn't be the first time. Perhaps the issue confused me. :D

My thinking was that the BMP-1 gives you the "Blackouts" sound, using passive pickups. By bringing the preamp outside the pup, you could insert any pickup switching between the pup and preamp. But, maybe not.

Re: Can BlackOuts AHB-1 be Coil Tapped split put push pull buttons on them ?

As long as the discussion has migrated to other brands, don't forget all Fishman Fluence Humbuckers can be split to either coil. It's not heavily advertised because there are so many other features. But there are two solder pads on the bottom of the pickup. The rest of the switching options, like Voice 1, Voice 2, high frequency tilt, and -6dB (like what makes an X-Series) are all on pin-outs on the bottom.
