Like the first ones Floyd made back in the 80's.
Can people still buy a Original Floyd Rose without the fine tuners?

Guthrie Govan is using something like an old floyd on his charvel prototype. No locking nut and fine tuners, only ,locking saddles and locking tuners.
Check out the video where he talks about it:
Maybe after his signature model is released people will want them again. I'm pretty intrigued by the idea too.

For that kind of moolah I'd expect it to have fine tuners.
Function wise, it probably works well with a slippery nut/locking tuner combo, as Guthrie has it.

I saw both models of his Charvel when he came here to Cleveland with the Aristocrats a couple months back. One had the Floyd the other had a Gotoh with vintage saddles.
But yea he was the reason why I asked. I never would of thought to use the Prototype Floyd like a vintage trem. Not sure if I would have gone with that setup myself but very interesting indeed.

Why is it any different functionally (Its different in size and mounting) than the other FR model offered on the old Strat Plus Deluxe? Strings lock at the bridge an tuners, but used a roller nut.

Well you know what? This encourages the hell out of me. I got a mid-80s Hamer Scarab 2 with one of those non-fine tuner jobbies on it and I've been all sorts of weirded out by it. If Govan is using one with success with hard gigging, I think I should be good with a pointy guitar that gets played hard on a blocked trem.
It's funny he mentioned wanting fret markers that stood out. Shoulda gotten a Hamer like mine with the LEDs.

also, I just watched that vid and have 1) gas'd up for those pickups 2) want to go flip my output jack, and 3) found Govan disarmingly pleasant, Especially since he looks like a wookie. It's like Beast from the X-Men.

I mean I would have maybe choose a floyd rose pro the one that keeps the fine tuners out the way and so I can tune at the headstock and at the bridge but thats just me. Also I would of put a D-Tuna and had them carve out a special route that would allow me to pull up with the D-Tuna attached.
But then again I don't have a problem with the OFR or the Locking nut.

Edge II - Edge without fine tuners, they were only put on the VM models, afaik. I think the base plate was also ground down a bit so the trem would rest on the body (not possible with original Edge).
