Can you adjust single string height on a Jackson/Floyd bridge?

The Jackson SL-3 has a Floyd Rose licensed bridge, which says Jackson on the side. The problem I'm having is that the E and A (especially the A) are buzzing, and its coming through the amp kinda bad. I've raised that side of the bridge as I like higher action anyway on the fatter strings, but the A seems to sit about an 1/8 or 1/4 inch lower than the others. I can't see where to adust it. Any tips? I was thinking of just doing the old bent up cardboard under the string trick, lol.

You'll have to make a shim...

Get some super thin metal & cut/drill to fit.

Something like a spark plug feeler guage would give you a lot of different thicknesses to pick from for only a few bucks.

I've heard of people folding up aluminum foil or cutting drink cans to make shims, too.

You can also buy them at most of the places that sell Floyd Rose parts.

Okay, so I was on track the first time, lol. I have a spark plug guage with like 25 shims I don't use. That's a great idea. If that doesn't work, I'm sure I can muster up a beer can, hee hee.

Thanks guys. Hopefully this does the trick. This guitar is aces now except for the buzzing. At first I thought I didn't like the pickup, but now I know it's the buzzing. Thank you again.

Kirk out. :smokin:

Did it. The buzz is much better now. Not gone, but much better. Thank you.

Did you say the A was lower than the rest? There are two low saddles, two medium saddles, and two tall saddles. The tall ones should be in the center, then the medium, then the lows. So be sure that the saddles didn't accidentally get swapped around at some point before you start shimming them.

Yes, the two middle strings are the tallest. The fat E and the A string were both even level, so maybe they were swapped around. However, even shimmed the buzz is still there. May need a little neck work. I'll probably bring it to the local tech once I get my second guitar I just bought.

Could just be a fret that's popped up in one spot. Usually the shim works on most of those. If you dont want to spend the $$ on the tech, you can order the shims pretty cheap from almost anywhere that carries floyd bridges. I'll see if I can dig up a link. Maybe the correct shim will make the differece.

edit...here are some links for ya.

http://www.axcessories.com/products.asp?cat=25 Cost $2

http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/guitar_frsaddles.htm $9, but you get 12, not 6

http://www.guitarnucleus.com/gnstore/tremolo.html

http://www.dguitarparts.com/bparts.htm

I've purchased from guitarpsrtsresource.com in the past, and have received good service. At least these are som $10 options before plunking down money for a fret level, dress, setup type thing.

Hope it all works out for ya bro. I hope to be joining the Jackson family soon.

Thanks a million Jeff. I'll check it out. I may just go to the tech anyway because I really want this guitar to be in top shape. It's darn close now with just my plundering work.
