Actually I explaining what I wanted incorrectly. My 20th Shiva IS dark and saggy! Love it.
But the 20th is more open than the original Shiva. I have three cabs. One with V30s, one with high powered greenbacks and one with Lynchbacks.

I love my PWE, sound like the best Marshall I have ever played at any volume.

I think I want something simple and that can take 6L6 tubes and is less forgiving.
And, takes pedals well. I am thinking Mesa Boogie Electradyne.

Last night at practice my Shiva sounded dark and I had the presence and treble at 1:00 o'clock.

If your Shiva sounds dark, you could try a different V1 Preamp tube. For example, substituting a EH 12AX7 in for a JJ 12AX7 should give you a brighter tone.

Perhaps some new tubes would bring the sexy back to the amp you have?

Don't want to talk you out of the ED, though--it's a great amp!

I like how my Shiva is. All JJ preamp tubes. I prefer them in all my amps.

Have you tried a lot of different preamp tubes, or are you just stubborn?

Oh my, I tried a ton! I have preferred JJs in all my amps for years. They give me the feel I like and the tone. Most preamp tubes I tried were not that great, always came back to JJ!

When someone mentions the 90's, the first two amps to pop in my head are a Dual recto, and an SLO. The SLO would be my choice.

Too bad I can;t stand either of those amps. LOL. 90s make me think of JCM 800 and both my amps do a great, if not better JCM 800 tone.

I say just stay with the shiva and dont get a new amp,


maybe downgrade from shiva even

My MGUS is under control. I see the best guy in Philly. Nothing I can do other than exercise, eat right and take my meds. Outside of that....concentrating on music helps me a lot!

Don't laugh guys but after much thought and amp demoing, I decided I have to use what works for me and just do my best to adapt to different situations. Luckily I am fairly one dimensional, LOL.....mostly classic rock, 80s and 90s rock and hard rock to modern day indy rock. The heaviest I play is newer Metallica, bands like Tool and APC. I am a hardcore Marshall type amp guy, love EL34 amps, I can't solo on anything else and that is key. So, I am ordering a Splawn Streetrod head to join my 20th Anniversary Bogner Shiva and PWE Event Horizon.
What can I way, I like amps built off a Marshall platform. Nothing, not even the new Mesa Boogies feel as good to me. I find them way more plug n play too.
Next on my list? A Friedman Naked.

Decided to pick up a Fryette SigX as well if I can find one. I think the SigX adds a new element to my collection. I also picked up a modified by BFg amplification, Mesa Dual Rectifier.....sounds like an amazing marriage of Mesa and Marshall.

Gave the Sig X back to my friend because I ended liking my modified Dual Rectifier much better. So right now the 20th Shiva, PWE Event Horizon and BFG modded 3 channel Dual Rectifier have been blowing my mind. Eventually I would like to get some more amps but I have a full plate for a while. Thanks guys!
