Can you recommend a cheap mic?

Re: Can you recommend a cheap mic?

Not to shoot you down buddy, but If my memory serves me right the SM58 mics are for vocals only and aren't recommended for instrument micing.

Not true. A 58 is basically a 57 with a windscreen.

From Shure's website:

"Question:

Can I use SM58 for my gutiar amp?

And the most IMPORTANT question, if I use this mic (SM58), in front of my guitar amp, lets say about 3 inches, there's any chance that I could damaged the mic? I mean, the pressure generate by the amp, can damage the microphone?

Answer:

At 01/17/2001 07:33 AM we wrote - The SM57 is the most common mic used for a guitar amp. The SM58 is same as the SM57, except the SM58 has a ball-shaped grille. Either model is a good choice for miking a guitar amp.

The sound pressure from the guitar amp will not damage the SM57 or the SM58, no matter how loud you set the amplifier."

Re: Can you recommend a cheap mic?

yeah, only because you can get the SM57's diapraghm closer to the speaker grill because it hasnt got a wee 'roll cage'....

... until you take off the windscreen (it screws off)... only problem is it's vulnerable to diaphraghm damage with it off, so take care..
