Re: Cannabis Rex

Been playing my Jet City Picovalve through my C-Rex loaded closed back cab tonight. Running the guitars through my Twin Twin setup (Twin Mayhem distortion after a GFS Twin boost). Mine has had about 3 years of playing time in which to break in. I'll say this, I loved it new. Broken in, words can not speak...

Definitely takes a white to break in. I have had mine for nearly a year and it's just starting to sound real nice. It's not a 15w or 20w speaker though so you have to give that Blues Jr a little juice to get that hemp cone purring.

Re: Cannabis Rex

^^
Nope, it's rated at 50 watts@16 0hms, 103 db efficiency, so it is loud for it's size. My Picovalve is 5 watts, and it will keep up with a good drummer in a small room/studio environment. You want to run it big, mike it. Or get a bigger amp.

What do you mean "nope?" I said in plain English that it's NOT a 15w or 20w speaker, and also that you have to give it some juice. Jeez, what's with all the automatic naysayers? It would help if you actually read before commenting. By the way, you can get an 8 ohm Cannabis Rex.

Re: Cannabis Rex

I have the 8 ohm and I run it on a 15 watt amp. It kicks ass. I've also used it with 40 and 50 watt amps.

It meant that I was agreeing with you, that it was not a 15 or 20 watt speaker. And being verbose about it too.

Re: Cannabis Rex

Cannabis Rex is a winner!!!!

Just what the Blues Jr needed. Warm tone, took away the spikey upper mids and smoothed out the top end.

Like having a new amp!!!!

Re: Cannabis Rex

ive been using one in my old deluxe reverb for a long time, its a great speaker for a fender amp

Re: Cannabis Rex

I have:

- a pair of 16 ohm CRs in my 20 year old Laney VC50 (50W from two 6L6s). I don't know why I waited so much time to replace the original HH speakers. The CRs tamed that super-bright MOFO of an amp straight as they came out from the factory box, and they are only getting better with time;

- another two CRs (this time, a pair of 8 ohm) in my Fender Frontman 212 (100W SS). I use it as a "blank canvas" amp for my modeller (I patch the modeller's output directly to the Fender's effects loop return).

This speaker excels at both roles. It also looks cool and it's a great conversation starter with other musicians.

The Cannabis Rex is a home-run from Eminence.

Re: Cannabis Rex

I run a 16 ohm in a closed back cab to go with my Picovalve head. It definitely helped with the high end. I can get a nice high gain sizzle without it being too harsh.

Re: Cannabis Rex

I have a couple in a 212 cab, and they make all my amps sound smooth and warm, especially the Jet City 20.

Enjoy!!
