can't decide!

I play classic rock and a little modern rock. I love the sounds of the following guitarists: gilmour, townsend, slash, page.

I ordered a custom hollow strat-shaped mahogany body from warmoth. I will probably use a maple (or mahogany) neck with rosewood fretboard which i will also order from warmoth.

Now the hard part!

I've been trying to decide for weeks which pickups to use. I love vintage tone. I'm gonna most likely go with dual humbuckers. Configurations I've considered:

Neck / Bridge
Gibson 57 Classic / Gibson 57 Classic (or Classic +)
SD 59 / SD 59
SD 59 / SD Pearly Gates
SD A2P / SD Pearly Gates
SD Pearly Gates / SD Pearly Gates
P90s (did pete ever use P90s in his SG? if he did they sounded damn good)
or maybe even the sh-14 custom 5 somewhere in there??

Considering the type of wood my guitar will be made of, which pickups would you use to achieve that sweet vintage tone of the guitarists i've listed? I know gilmour uses mainly single coils, but I still love his clean and overdriven tone. I will eventually have a big muff, tube screamer, blues driver, sd twin tube classic, mxr distortion +.. or maybe even the blackstone mosfet overdrive. I have a vox pathfinder 15w amp.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Re: can't decide!

In your position, I would look for a pair of 59s. The pickups you choose shouldn't make too much difference, considering the effects you plan to use and your current amp. If you found yourself to be unhappy with that selection of pickups, it would be best to wait until the amp has been upgraded before changing then out.

Considering your likes of Daves clean sounds: Look also for a Custom (not Custom5) or a JB in the bridge. The parallel sounds with a maple/rosewood neck comes damn near. May you can get 4 conducter '59 to SingleCoil sounds (but not that great!)
