Cap question

Do I need any specific cap for a tone knob 500k with 2 500k volumes and just the one tone, or will any do. I'm a noob to wiring.

Re: Cap question

cap size determines how much of the highs are rolled off
the pot size is indifferent in such matters

Re: Cap question

+1 to Ehd. But you have to try a couple and see what works best for you. Alot of my guitars came stock with .047uf caps. For me, they rolled off too much high end and upper mids. I want a tone cap to just get rid of the bite when I turn down the pot so I use either .010uf or .020uf. But it depends on the pup. A bright pup like a '59 will get a .020uf cap in my guitars. A Screamin Demon which is a very smooth rich toned pup gets a .010uf.

It's pretty easy to change out a cap, and they're not very expensive so try a few and see.

Re: Cap question

a push pull pot with a 47 in the up position
and a 22 in the down

instant testing

and once decided the push pull cna be repurposed to something
like coil split or "Bridge always on" mod

or some other interesting use

EDIT

OR

you can dangle two wires out under your pickguard and "clip"
on different caps till one speaks to ya

one wire from the middle terminal
where one leg would land
the other to ground
where the other would land

like this
