Capacitor and Volume mod Tutorial

Here is another useful tutorial I have found.

Re: Capacitor and Volume mod Tutorial

I've always been told not to bend the leads of a capacitor at the point they attach to the body as was done in the video. I suggest holding the leads with small needle nose pliers right up against the body of the cap and then bending the leads at a right angle against the pliers. I am told this prevents any stress or damage to the cap. Any of you guys with electronics backgrounds want to comment?

Re: Capacitor and Volume mod Tutorial

^^ Absolutely correct, JLD.

Bending the leads of electronic components directly at the component base has about a 35% chance of tearing the lead out or severing internal connections, adjust for skill and quality of component.

This is the third of 3 tutorials from this imojo guy that I' ve seen which are likely to cause more harm than good.... It appears we have a new Tone-King, just that this one is trying to pass himself off as a qualified luthier. I mean, he may do ok work in real life, but watching these videos he´s more or less the last person I´d take my guitars to.
