Capacitors

Can anyone suggest where I can find some vertical-mount 500V or 600V 100microfarrad capacitors ? Thanks.

Re: Capacitors

Thanks for the info... As you've guessed, I don't know much about electronics, but the guy fixing up an old 70s tube head I bought just told me that he needs to order in the capacitors I described. His usual supplier didn't have any so he asked me to have a look. What surprised me is that he thinks they'll cost about 15$ each. Apparently the current ones, which are not necessarily stock, are 375V but there's 415V in the circuit so he wants to change them. I thought he was talking about the filter caps (they needed changing as the amp had bad hum), but those caps at Mojo look a lot smaller. Any info likely to reduce my ignorance greatly appreciated.

Re: Capacitors

Well, you'll notice the large electrolytics are pretty pricey. So, if he got the value wrong, like I just did, it was early this morning, I thought you were referring to PICO farad ones. Micro farad written uf.

So, 100 uf, 350v is sufficient for a Fender. In a Fender, they often are set up with two 100uf - 350 volt and 3 20uf -450 volt electrolytic caps. If you buy the 100 uf-450 volt ones, they won't fit under that can.

They wire the two 100 uf ones up in series, which makes the combined reading between the two now 50 uf - 700 volts. Plenty of protection.

Here's a link that discusses it.
